Opening Scene |
Ernest (Slim) and Angela (Queen) |
Having lost a capital case, Angela took a Tinder date with Earnest just because she didn’t feel like being alone, but it’s awkward, and they aren’t really a good match. She asks for a ride home and that should be the end of it. |
The theme is that everyone is using dating sites to get to know each other. They do not meet at the supper market or at church or even thru friends. But they meet thru an app that is for single to meet singles and hook up |
Close up shoots of each of them separate and together as they are talking |
Earnest a Costco cashier with a go along to get along attitude. Angela an attorney highly cognizant of every racial micro-aggression. |
The display of the need for companionship in times of distress was exhibited by Angela who had earlier, before the dinner, lost a client of hers to the judicial system through capital punishment. Her willingness to find solace in the company of someone led to her hook up with Earnest, whom she met on Tinder. And they were not compatible |

Police Pulling the couple over and the treatment of them |
Office Reed Ernest( Slim) and Angela (Queen) |
A routine traffic stop goes as badly as most movie traffic stops of black people by obnoxious cops tend to go, they are forced to stick together on the run. |
Queen and Slim reaffirms that Black people continue the tradition of taking other folks scraps and making even better meals. The wretched of the earth do not just survive; they thrive because regardless of what religion they have adopted or even having abandoned the notion of their being a god, there seems to be an abiding faith in the “great goodness of the universe” that is unshakable in the vast majority of African Americans, |
Aside from the music Earnest plays on the car stereo when Angela lets him, this is a quiet movie, mostly featuring scenes at night (the days go by quickly and feel less real than the darkness). This adds to the sense of a bad dream that gets progressively worse. |
The perception that 'innocent until proven guilty' is now replaced with 'guilty until proven innocent. This is a metaphor also for black life in America generally — it is all a chase to avoid being nabbed and punished for things beyond your control, so you might as well enjoy the run. it depicts peaceful resistance becoming active and even weaponized when confronted by victims who stand up and inspire. It’s the intimacy of her relationship to the criminal-justice system that makes it all the more damning when she demands that they go on the run rather than attempt to explain to other officers what happened. |
Worse, because to escape their crime, the duo must compound it with more evasion and illegality, yet better because they start to live life to the fullest. Queen” and “Slim” embrace the “live free or die” ethos that most of the racist cops on their tail would claim to support wholeheartedly |

The Second official date |
Slim and Queen |
the couple takes a moment from their escape to relax, have a drink, and go dancing at a Mississippi bar. And while it's clear that the patrons recognize them, all is well. |
taking the time to stop and enjoy simple pleasures, mostly courtesy of black-owned businesses whose owners won’t turn them in even when they disapprove, while the community at large embraces the fugitives as role models for sticking it to the man. |
Dark, Romantic safe spot |
I think this one is the most simplistic love and live while you can when you can no matter what |
The juke joint is called The Underground, and it’s a safe haven for them when they land there. they’re able to have this fleeting moment of freedom where they’re actually able to fall in love." |

Closing scene at the airport |
Slim and Queen White police officers on the Monroe county police department |
At the end of the film while together trying to get to the plane to leave the country with Slim, Queen is instantly killed with one sudden shot—at the hands of a white, female cop. He dies in a hail of bullets while carrying her lifeless body towards the cops |
It reminds me of a say by my grandmother who always says “Black bodies and Black lives are often more honored in death than in life, the and we don't get to know who these people actually are until they're no longer with us”. |
Daylight vibrant beautiful, lush and green deep |
To put it simply, a woman shooting a fellow female served as an example of the betrayal of sisterhood and unity that puts so many people in our culture in harm's way. The scene of him dying is something we have been witness too countless numbers of times as the story lie spells the bitter truth that the world has come to learn black men are always seen as a threat even when they are not. |
In the end, Earnest and Angela are more Thelma and Louise than Bonnie and Clyde, lashing out at real injustice because they know the system is too rigged to give them a fair shake over a simple misunderstanding that escalated. |

Questions
How did you analyze your observation data to form assertions?
According to Yin (2014) using the analytic strategy was the best fit for this. Yin (2014) stated that this was referred to as an explanation of building to give an explicit illustration of the narration to make assertions based on the viewer's observation from obtained information from the movie.
How would you determine whether your assertions were trustworthy?
Through a constant examination of the new data that may evolve after the final research. Data analysis for a qualitative research study which is a research process that may take a longer time depending on the research methodology, data collection, coding, and data analysis. the examiner can constantly review, from the body of knowledge, the findings in which the data can still be added to new theories (Lawlor, Tilling, & Davey Smith, 2016). To limit subjectivity, the researcher would attempt to rely on using multiple sources of data to obtain accurate results for the trustworthiness and validity of data. In this movie, even though the movie was emotional and tends to lean towards sympathy, the viewer focused on the plot, theme, and scene and repeated scenes and replayed the remarkable scenes over and over to make assertions even while constantly revising the plays as the movie lingers (Lawlor, Tilling, & Davey Smith, 2016). This student watched each section of the film twice a day and made notes of some observation. The movie also had the CC used to help with some of the wordings and sounds that were audible but were found to be repeated in different scenarios in the same movie.
What might be the difference between watching a TV show and observing a real-life situation?
The conversation, actions, and how and when the characters fell in love and died was all written and laid out. While watch the movie, you can feel the bond, and in some scenarios, this researcher can perceive the of the mood, and tension which was also a scripted act guided by the director. The use of different genres of music were used to help connect the view to the characters in the story and the idea behind the storyline. In this movie, the intimacy part wasn't disclosed by words but by the couples, body language, silence, atmosphere, and music. In a real life situation, each participant would not have music or a scripted outcome. The researcher may not be able to always engage their body language or what they were thinking if the participant did not tell you. Also in real life, the researcher would not always be Privy to the intimate and private details of the couple.
What influence did camera angles have on your observation?
The camera angles focused more on the actor's faces to illustrate a physical expression of an idea or emotions. The angles of the camera also gave you a wide view of what the actors saw in the movie. The camera angles of the movie always directed the viewer to what the director wanted the viewer to see at that moment in time. As the viewer you're unable to look around the environment to see if there are other things that are more important than what you're watching on the screen
What observation skills have you learned in this assignment that can be transferred to a real observation?
Direct and participant observation as well as taking notes in the field, listening attentively, closely examining body language and interpreting silence gestures would help more in understanding critical and specific occurrences in its natural settings (Gurwin, Revere, Niepold, Bassett, Mitchell, Davidson, & Binenbaum, 2018). According to Gurwin, Revere, Niepold, Bassett, Mitchell, Davidson, & Binenbaum, (2018) having a better knowledge of the participants is key to be able to understand the idea behind their actions and response which could be influenced by their background or related life experiences. This process would help in collecting relevant considerable data. Instead of gathering a lot of complex data that may be hard or too comprehensive to analyze and document. Using simple English, paying attention to details, and listening attentively when making notes of the observed phenomenon as well as writing concisely with good grammar and symbols would equally be effective during a real observation.
