Assignment 2
SAMPLE MILESTONE ONE
(due in Week Two)
Fayetteville Museum Focus
Fayetteville, North Carolina has a population of 200,564 as of 2010 according to the census. Fayetteville is located in the Sandhills which is the Western part of the Coastal Plain region, on the Cape Fear River (Community Facts). The I-95 corridor goes right through the heart of Fayetteville which is great for those who love to travel (FCEDC). The population is believed to be in excess of 210,000(United States Census Bureau, 2010) now. The city has mostly moderate temperatures year round. The winters are pretty mild with snow only occurring a few days out of the year and the temperature in the high 50’s low 60’s. The summers are also considered to be hot with an average temperature of at least 102. There seems to be a good blend of races here in the city. Over 45% of the population is white and a little more than 41% being African American. Hispanic, Asian American, Native American, and other races make up the other 12% of the population here (United States Census Bureau, 2010).
My proposal is for the museum to be centered on the arts and culture. The city is filled with such a diverse group of people mostly due to the army. I think that this museum will be a great way for all the cultures in the area to learn about each other as well as other cultures. Focusing on art and culture will bring something new to the community. I would showcase all the different types of art that shows what each culture is about. This museum would bring new visitors to the city to see and learn things they may not have known about some of the cultures in our community and around the world. There are tons of people who can learn something new from this type of museum. This could also be a way to bring in more revenue to the city. I would make it very budget friendly but the city could still gain.
