VI. Recent Financial Results

Year-end stock for the last 5 years

UA stock has been consistently out performing both the S&P stock index and the apparel, accessories & luxury goods. UA is experiencing a phenomenal trend. This trend is not intended to forecast future stock performance, but it goes a long way to indicate the possible future performance of UA common stock.

5-Year Annual revenues/Annual After-tax Earnings

5-year growth

Annual Revenues

5-year debt

Annual Debt Owed

As mentioned earlier, although UA is doing a great job growing each year, the company must take some caution in how it handles investment spending. It has seen a very sharp increase in the amount of debt owed to creditors and investors combined.

VII. Competitors in the relevant market/industry

The three big competitors of UA are Adidas ®, Columbia ®, and Nike ®. Of the three, Nike® is is the most challenging and the stiffest competition with a Net income(ttm) of $3.62B compared to UA’s $232.57M.

UA has broken into the playing field with some very well established players. The largest player by far is Nike ® (the name formerly mostly known for The Greek Godess of Victory). The Swoosh (action) logo of Nike looks more like the performance of UA over the past few years.

According to Caplinger (2016) Under Armour has used a calculated and measured strategy in establishing itself as a major player in athletic apparel. From the beginning, it attacked certain segments starting with apparel, forcing its competitors to play catch-up.  UA has successfully made the move into the footwear arena.

Using a hardcore guerilla marketing strategy lined with an array of small tactical moves allowed the founder and CEO Kevin Plank to place UA on the cutting edge of innovative moves and advances into targeted markets.

UA started to move from the US market into international markets.
