1 Requirements Statement
1.1 Project Drivers
Listed below are the key ‘drivers’ for this project.
· The class project, which is to 'Write a Complete Technical Report' as part of this semester's course in technical writing,
· Assessment of the feasibility of completing the assigned topic or choose another topic (with the help of your instructor) about which you will write and present.
· Receive evaluation and grade.

Choose a topic for the project |
Write a feasibility report to Dr. J. Jonathan Lewis examining three (3) topics in terms of: · availability of information, · suitability of the topic for the amount of time available between now and MAY 1, 2009, · and the significance of each topic to landscaping, and my landscaping career goals. instructor approval |
|
Complete the project before time |
Due May 1, 2009 must complete no later than April 20, 2009 |
2 Feasibility Assessment
This section assesses and identifies each of the topics options available and the ‘feasibility’ (or likelihood) of each option meeting the requirements defined above. It also describes the risks, issues and assumptions associated with the feasibility of each option.
2.1 Topic 1 – The Retrofitting of EB320
Description
Write a ‘Complete technical report’ on retrofitting our classroom EB320 into a ‘sound—proof media room’:
· List materials, labor needs, and resources
· Build prototype and interview persons in the industry
· Write and present final report within 30 days
Assessment
In the time frame given it is not practical to use formal methods for the assessment of feasibility. Careful consideration and a ‘best guess’ is the only method available. With this as foundation for a decision, this topic will not be suitable. Retrofitting a room into a ‘mini theater’ or ‘media room’ is not relevant to landscaping.

Required capital expenditure funds have not been budgeted |
Low |
Save a percentage of income to cover the project costs |
|
Required computer software is only at ‘beta’ phase and has not yet been released live |
Medium |
Design topic based on current software version and adapt changes to topic once the final version of the software has been released |
|
Instructor approval must be sought to implement the final topic |
High |
Complete the feasibility reports to receive the instructor’s approval early so that it does not delay the final submittal process. |
Assumptions
Assuming this topic is for the person who specializes in remodeling not landscaping.
2.2 Topic 2 – The Rent—A—Family Business Plan
Description
Write a ‘Complete technical report’ on writing a business plan for Rent—A--Family:
· List materials, software needs, and resources
· Write prototype and interview persons in the landscaping industry
· Write and present a final report within 30 days
Assessment
In the time frame given it is not practical to use formal methods for the assessment of feasibility. Careful consideration and a ‘best guess’ is the only method available. With this as foundation for a decision, this topic will not be suitable. The allotted time is too short for the amount of research and interviews necessary to complete a viable prototype.

2.3 Topic 3 – The Re—Landscaping of 7058 Concho
Description

· List materials, labor needs, and resources
· Build prototype and interview persons in the landscaping industry
· Write and present a final report within 30 days
Assessment
In the time frame given it is not practical to use formal methods for the assessment of feasibility. Careful consideration and a ‘best guess’ is the only method available. With this as foundation for a decision, this topic is suitable.
