Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice

1

An Introduction to Clinical Inquiry

Part 1

There exists a variance among the common practice and the evidence-based practice. Common practice entails doing what nurses are required to do in hospitals, or community health centers. However, the evidence-based practice involves giving a sound and tested solutions on the effectiveness of patient care. The two perspectives provide a clear distinction in understanding theory, research, and practice.

Evidence-based practice is programs that have been proved efficient through research. Nurses conduct research and appraise their findings to guide decision making. The research will use four nursing research databases to search for articles discussing the essentials of an evidence-based program. The databases include google scholar, MEDLINE, EMBASE, and CINHAL. The materials include the following;

Part 2: Identifying Research Methodologies

  Article   Reason for choosing   Research Aim   Research Methodology   Strengths of Methodology
  Boswell, M. V., Trescot, A. M., Datta, S., Schultz, D. M., Hansen, H. C., Abdi, S.,... & Patel, V. B. (2007). Interventional techniques: evidence-based practice guidelines in the management of chronic spinal pain. Pain Physician, 10(1), 7-111   The article discusses the evidence-based guidelines for determining the spinal pain that can be used for recommendations in the United States. The article, through the study of spinal pain, provides evidence-based techniques for determining spinal pain.   The aim is to develop an evidence-based technique for determining clinical-based practice guidelines for interventions for spinal pain diagnosis.   The study applied a qualitative methodology such as literature searches, literature, synthesis, and systematic review.   The study design analyses the results of other studies, thereby, minimizing research errors.

What counts as evidence in evidence‐based practice?. Journal of advanced nursing, 47(1), 81-90.     The study provides a criteria for selecting an evidence-based practice.   The study debates on the nature of evidence and argues how it can be used for the implementation of the patient-care approach.   The analysis applies the qualitative research methodology in analyzing the past authors’ arguments on the criteria for evidence-based practice.   Qualitative studies have minimized research errors.

Evidence-based clinical practice guidelines for liver cirrhosis 2015. Journal of Gastroenterology, 51(7), 629-650.   The study was selected because it provides an evidence-based technique for understanding and treating liver cirrhosis.   The study strives to determine the evidence-based practice strategies and guidelines for patients with liver cirrhosis.   The study applied a literature analysis methodology.   The methodology looks and the description and the behaviour of the variables of the study.
