Assignment 1: The New Frontier: Data Analytics
Introduction
The development of Information Systems for Decision-Making presents many IT
management opportunities, challenges and concerns for most influential IT managers. Firstly
(element or topic 1), in this paper, it will define data analytics in general and provide a brief
overview of the evolution of utilizing data analytics in business. Secondly (element or topic 2),
the paper will analyze the main advantages and disadvantages of using data analytics within the
industry or company that you have chosen. Thirdly (element or topic 3), the paper will
determine the fundamental obstacles or challenges that business management in general must
overcome in order to implement data analytics. Next (element or topic 4), the paper will suggest
a strategy that business management could use to overcome the obstacles or challenges in
question with a rationale. Further (element or topic 5), the paper will analyze the overall manner
in which data analytics transformed the industry or company selected with regard to customer
responsiveness and satisfaction.
…Second paragraph is not indented…if it is still a part of the introduction.
Lastly (element or topic 6), the paper will speculate on the trend of using data analytics for the
chosen industry or company in the next ten (10) years by providing the one (1) additional type of
data that one could collect by using data analytics with the rationale.
…Second paragraph is only indented…if it is a new element or topic…
According to (Baker, 2015), the author added that given the (1 st paragraph Element 1)
Data Analytics functions, DBMSs are referred to as online transaction processing (OLTP)
systems. OLTP is a design that breaks down complex information into simple data tables. Jones
(2011) further states that this design is very efficient for analyzing and reporting captured

transactional data. The authors Wilson and Fields (2003) suggest that OLTP databases are
capable of processing millions of transactions every second.
According to Chou (2011), the advantages and disadvantages of using data analytics (2 nd
paragraph) and real-time Big Data Analytics are not only positive as it also offers some
challenges. It requires special computer power: The standard version of Hadoop is, at the
moment, not yet suitable for real-time analysis. New tools need to be bought and there are
however quite some tools available to do the job which Hadoop will be able to process data in
real-time in the future.
Fundamental obstacles or challenges for business management (3 rd
paragraph) in
(Galperin, 2011) suggest that forecasts receive scrutiny because they’re easy to understand. For
purposes of discussion, consider the number of cars rented on a Monday morning by a car
company at a major airport. The company has reservations information, but some people who
have booked won’t show up. Others will walk up to the counter looking to rent at the last
moment. Forecasts of the actual number of people who rent are invaluable for both profitability
and customer satisfaction. A basic forecast of next week’s demand can be generated by looking
at Mondays in the past. Figure 1 shows both observed demand and forecasts made by averaging
the observed demand from all prior weeks.

How Data Analytics Transformed the Industry or Company (5 th
paragraph)
…The conclusion restates the problem (elements or topics) the paper addresses and offer
a summation or thoughts in areas for the further development...
In conclusion, this paper defined data analytics in general and provided a brief overview
of the evolution of utilizing data analytics in business. Secondly, the paper analyzed the main
advantages and disadvantages of using data analytics within the industry or company that you
have chosen. Thirdly, the paper determined the fundamental obstacles or challenges that
business management in general must overcome in order to implement data analytics. Next, the
paper will suggested a strategy that business management could use to overcome the obstacles or
challenges in question with a rationale. Further, the paper analyzed the overall manner in which
data analytics transformed the industry or company selected with regard to customer
responsiveness and satisfaction. All in all (summation), the development of Information Systems
for Decision-Making presents many IT management opportunities, challenges and concerns for
most influential IT managers to include total cost, scale and potential risk.
