This article focuses on the role of social capital in responsible leadership. Maak argues that responsible

leadership helps build social capital for sustainable business and social good. He looks at both the social

networks that a leader builds within an organization, and the links that a leader creates with external

stakeholders. Maak’s concludes with the importance of continued research into the abilities that a

leader requires and how they can be acquired.

Maak has a Ph.D. from the University of St. Gallen and is Professor of Leadership and Director of the

Centre for Workplace Leadership at the University of Melbourne.
