Sample 2:
Mean world syndrome is an action that continues to occur and is increasing in its intensity everyday. With more and more people viewing television and media more heavily, they are also viewing more news and violence. This causes people to believe the world is more dangerous than ever even though statistics show that violence is actually trending downward. I would say that one of my favorite shows, NCIS displays violence as a solution strategy in many of its episodes. Since it is a government agency, they try to take the non-violent approach first normally but end up taking some sort of violent action to finish the situation. Also, every episode normally starts with a murder, kidnapping or some other sort of violent crime. This leads people to believe that these things happen everyday (which they do) but at a more frequent rate than they actually occur.
Sample 3:
The show Modern Family contains family conflicts in every episode. There are three families in the show. One is a gay couple who adopted an Asian girl. Another one is a rich old man with a young and beautiful Colombian woman. The last one is a middle-class family with three kids. Instead of using violence, they have a conversation and negotiate with each other in order to solve the misunderstanding and conflicts between them.
Contrary to the Mean World Syndrome, I feel happy and peaceful every time after watching the show. Sometimes their arguments are rigorous, they have deep talk despite the severity of the problems. The characters in Modern Family convince the only way to solve the tackle is to open up one’s heart and talk about their real feeling. Hopefully, there will be an increasing number of this kind of show in the society since it warms audiences’ heart and makes them believe that the world is a happy place instead of questioning the world as well as the society.
