Organizational leadership is one of the important skill for any individual or a group of people works in an organization. It may be a small company, project or even a big organization. Employees should have the ability to see a small and whole picture of the organization for effectively working in the company. Decision making is a skill one need to work on it, good leaders will have good decision-making skills.
IT Value
IT value is based on return getting back from investing in IT. Though it’s harder to calculate the return over investment in IT and it takes time. I have 6 years of work experience in IT when I was working a Quality Analyst initially most of the regression testing we were performing are manual base it has a lot of person effect and tedious to complete it on time. This regression testing is a repetitive process and one has to perform whenever there is a change or update in the system. This cost more money and time, and then automation came. Initially, automation cost more money and it takes time to do. Some people say its waste of money but then my manager firmly believed and asked us to automate it. Automation testing worked well for our regression testing and it saved much time as previously we took 10 days to complete and with automation we did in 3 days. It saved person-hours, cost. This is one example of IT value, which takes sometime but had a good return over investment.
Business and IT
In Hefty case study, the partnership between IT and Business teams are not very impressive. Whereas as a Quality Analyst we can't work without sound business knowledge. We used to have meetings on regular basis with the Business team to understand business and to clarify our doubts on the project requirements. The agile methodology used to have close interaction between IT and Business teams, we used to have daily scrum meetings where we discuss the status of the project and defects we raised with all other teams working with us in the project. This help to gain more knowledge about other team works and have a successful project completion with less defects in post-production.
IT Leader
IT Leaders they are the one who express and link IT with Business strategy. Their role is crucial since they need to balance between there team and business people. When I was working in Nielsen for Media research project, we faced a problem with business team. The demand from business team was increasing, they expect us to complete multiple projects within a short period of time with limited team members. Everyone in my team was working nearly 12 hours and even on weekend. It was a very difficult time for us, there was no proper requirement from the business team. My team lead motivated us and guide us in all those tough time. He explained to the business team how the IT team is struggling as there is no support from business team. My team lead scheduled a meeting for both IT and business team where we discussed and come to a solution. So an IT leader should always support for the IT team as well as helps the organization to work in a better way.
IT Shared services
Shared Services promotes an organization to work efficiently and cut down cost. My organization is using integrated business service which is evolved from GBS (global business service model). Four trends which is being used in my organizations are Better Integration, Unified Governance, Transform to Digitization and Building global network (TCS, 2018)
Social Computing
My company have an official page on Facebook, Twitter and even in their own company website we have a blog, where white papers written by employees will be posted. Apart from this, we have an internal social networking site, which is a great platform to discuss technologies and business.
