The introduction follows the title placement and the first line is indented of all paragraphs. The introduction typically includes two broad item: a brief overview or introduction to the topic of the paper (What is leadership?), and an identification of the main topics (as listed in each heading: personality, etc…) that you will discuss in the paper. One suggestion is to use the phrase …the purpose of this paper is to… to help frame your introduction. Be sure to follow APA formatting guidelines for your paper. This paper may be written in first person, singular. (Use pronouns: I, me, mine). Do not lose sight of the fact that this paper should retain a scientific and scholarly focus.
Leadership Style Assessment
Give a brief introduction to what the University of Kent’s Leadership Style assessment is and how it contributed to your paper. Only 3-4 sentences are needed in this section. You do not need to and should not describe how the University of Kent and HumanMetrics tools are designed (e.g., do not say, “I answered 50 questions...” Or the University of Kent Assessment consists of 50 questions and is scored…”). This section, just introduces the reader to this section of the paper so your reader can follow along.
My Leadership Style
Describe or define the leadership style that has been attributed to you by the University of Kent tool (be sure to include the citation as to where this information was obtained from). Do not give your scores or describe the University of Kent tool. If your leadership style was defined equally by two styles/potentials, then choose the one that you believe best describes you and define that one (only discuss one style). In a few statements, define or describe the style (so your reader knows what the style is and be sure to use citations to identify the sources of your information). Finally, identify is you agree or don’t with the style designation and provide examples of how you demonstrate (or don’t demonstrate – if you do not agree with the designation) this style either in formal or informal leadership roles in the nursing practice arena.
Effective Use of This Leadership Style
Introduce this section using a transition statement, and then describe one specific situation in which your identified leadership style will be most effective or appropriate to employ. Use references to support your discussion (Marquis & Houston, 2015 serves as a great reference here!).
Need to Change Leadership Style
Introduce this section using a transition statement. Next, consider the types of situations when this leadership style would not be most effective and would need to change. Then describe one specific situation in which you would need to change your leadership style to be most effective as a leader. Use references to support your discussion.
Jung Typology Personality Type
Remember to describe information used in your paper as if the reader knows nothing about the sources or topics. In this section, use 3-4 sentences to briefly describe what Jung Typology is on the HumanMetrics website (use citations).
My Jung Typology
Identify the results of your Jung Typology type assessment by identifying your designated personality type (e.g. INTJ), one of the 16 found on the website. Do not include a list of percentages or numbers associated with the identified traits nor a discussion of each individual trait, but rather focus on the overall personality type as identified by the four traits (e.g. INTJ). Describe your overall personality type (e.g. INTJ). Information regarding your type can be found on the HumanMetrics website or from another source. Be sure to provide citations for all sources of the information. Identify if you agree or disagree with the overall personality type.
Response to Change
Provide a transition to this section. Describe how your personality type can help or inhibit you when you are faced with change. Be sure to use literature to identify sources of the information and provide citations.
Leadership Competency
In this section, introduce your selected leadership competency that could use further development. Major leadership skills/competencies include: change management, communications, delegation, or managing conflict (see chapters 8, 19, 20 & 21 in textbook) Select one of these competencies that you believe you need to further develop.
(Selected) Leadership Competency
Define and describe this chosen competency, be sure to use citations to support your discussion.
Influence of Personality Type on Developing Competency
Discuss how your personality type will influence the development of the competency you selected in the section above. (Consider how your personality type relates to acquisition, or not, of the leadership competency and what you will need to do to further develop).
Summary
The summary must be specific to the content of your paper and summarizes the conclusions you have made about the two assessments (leadership style and personality type) and the leadership competency. New content should not be introduced in the summary and therefore generally citations are not needed in the summary.
