Discussion of GENDER AND DIVERSITY IN MEDIA
Sample1:
It is normal that we have video games that portray violence and I can't even lie I still play games that are just like Joystick Warriors. There is a rush playing those games and I believe it's not good, I do not want my child playing those kind those games in the future. Kids learn to many things while playing harmful games like these, with playing games like those, kids usually want to do what is protracted in the video. So imagine a kids shots a gun think it was OK, because he or she got away with it in a video game. See I bet meany did not think of it like that, these games a harmful to children's brains. I believe the solution is simple either get rid of these games as a whole, or make sure the person who is playing the game is of age.
Sample2:
Violent media has numbed our ability to empathize because we are constantly seeing it presented as a normal occurrence. We are shown so many problems that people have in the numerous channels of media that we are too spread thin to deeply care about everyone. Most people only connect with the people they are similar to or ones with similar problems. Violence and hate that are shown in video games are used as an excuse to ignore certain groups of people. There is a disconnect between us as children and adults because young people are more empathetic to all kinds of people but as we get older we tend to stick with people that are like us. A solution to long term empathy in our society would be to not lose the sense of similarity that we had when we were all in preschool playing with each other before anyone told us that was bad. Empathy can grown in environments of real human communication so we need to portray that in our messages. Media should present violence without prejudice and bias in order to have people to really resonate with them.
Sample3:
I am not a firm believer that these single-shooter games desensitize people from gruesome acts of violence. I understand that this notion is affirmed by scholarly evidence, and perhaps I am bias because I have never experienced the same feeling when playing a single-shooter, but I do understand the movement to limit young children from accessing these types of video games in the media overload environment.
Sample 4:
Considering the main theme of Joystick Warriors, I believe an unavoidable disclaimer accompanied by a real-life tragic story before every form of single shooter VG media would help reduce desensitization to human harm and death. This disclaimer could appear before every single shooter video game is loaded into it and also take the form as an advertisement before every video or picture linked to shooter video game media. This disclaimer would show the players of the game and audience of the media that guns and warfare have negatively affected one among millions of people in the world, and that human life will be forever be priceless and valuable.
I agree with the solution strategies proposed in the Empathy Gap in which is to propose that men need to view women empathically. Men need to learn to put themselves into women's shoes before they start learning how to treat and respect women. I was not surprised when I saw some of the experiments the video showed. Boys are taught to be smarter and more important when they are at an early age. It is pathetic that girls learned that social value as well in which they learned to consider themselves less valuable and not component starting an early age. I think parental education and school education should teach girls their own values and to make them think that they are as important and smart as boys starting kindergarten. Living more emotionally connected lives from viewing other men and women becoming allies and friends help to nourish human empathy in our "media overload environment".
