Please choose a Respiratory Medication and discuss its implications and potential interactions when taken with foods and home remedies.

The respiratory medication that I have chosen is Salmeterol, which offers long-term treatment, thus decreasing wheezing and the other difficulties that might be brought by ongoing lung disease or infection or even asthma. It usually has got several implications or the unwanted effects which come along with its usage. It should be noted that these side effects if they occur, they needs medical attention, which a doctor will diagnose and offer further advice. Such implications include the difficulties in breathing where one is found to be breathing at a high voice or that one feels that the amount of oxygen taking in so lesser thus the difficulty, there also the headache, runny nose, sneezing, irritation of the throat, chest tightness and many more are the ones consider dot be very common. Others include blistering and flaking of the skin, dizziness, diarrhea, dry mouth, thirst, pain around the cheekbones, and many more (Bills & Rose, 2019).

The medication has got several negative interactions with different types of foods such as caffeine having beverages, and foods where one may experience nervousness, nausea, sleeping issues, etc., which are for caffeine-sensitive people. Also, for the grape juice, it should not be taken together with the medication Salmeterol without a healthcare professional advice as side effects such as high blood pressure, fainting, water retention, stomach discomforts, etc. may be observed. Several home remedies for the medication include the proper storage to avoid being reached out to by children, the taking of the drug with a doctor's prescription, and even not sharing with others. In case of poison, one can call the hotline help number at 1-800-222-1222, and in case if the victims have collapsed or been having trouble breathing, one can call the emergency service number 911 (Kaplan, 2007).

What would you teach a patient about your chosen drug? 

There are various things I would teach a patient on the medication of this drug, which includes the taking of the drug when one has taken food and not when having an empty stomach. Also, one to take precautions o the storage to avoid being reached out by children, or even being stored with poisonous chemicals. Even when disposing of the drug left out or even the container, one should ensure that the procedure is safe for all people, environmentally friendly and not attempt to flush the medication down the toilet. Another one is on following the doctors/health specialist's prescription on drug usage to avoid overdosing or even underdosing (Blokdijk, 2018).
