as nursing practice. Being among the most effective problem-solving technique in the clinical

setting, it incorporates the best available evidence from excellently designed scientific

researches, preferences, patient values, and clinicians’ expertise in making decisions

concerning patient care. Therefore, the major objective of evidence-based providers is to make

sure that patients are offered safe and top-notch healthcare services. For the highest

probability of success, evidence-based utilizes an interprofessional model in which shared

decision making is greatly used (Johnson, 2020).

Additionally, varied actors at the local, state, and federal levels are specifically for the

implementation and adoption of evidence-based practice. Generally, nurses have shown a

positive attitude toward evidence-based practice and the providers of it. Most of the nurses

are ready to gain the needed skills and knowledge for the adoption of evidence-based practice

in clinical practice (Kim et al. (2016).

Evidence-based practice will help in obtaining and achieving the quadruple aim in all the four

measures that are: 4 “IMPROVING PATIENT EXPERIENCE, REDUCING COST,

POPULATION HEALTH, AND WORK-LIFE OF HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS”. 5

THE IDEA OF THE QUADRUPLE AIM IS TO REACH THE ABOVE MENTIONED

GOALS BY REDESIGNING THE HEALTHCARE FACILITIES. The major challenge in

reaching these goals in the extensive health sector is improving the population health and at

the same time minimizing the healthcare costs, which needs a high degree of effectiveness as

well as efficiency. 6 A PRODUCTIVE HEALTH WORKFORCE IS COMPULSORY

FOR ANY HEALTHCARE SYSTEM TO BE EFFECTIVE. 7 THIS IS THE

THOUGHT BEHIND THE TRANSLATION OF TRIPLE AIM TO QUADRUPLE AIM

THROUGH ADDING A FOURTH GOAL THAT IS IMPROVING THE WORK-LIFE

OF HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS (SIKKA, MORATH, & LEAPE (2015).

The experience of patients is improved when using evidence-based practice in the care

delivery and decision-making by healthcare providers. For instance, in a healthcare facility,

hourly rounding on each patient may be performed backed by evidence-based practice in

improving the experience of patients. Evidence-based practice also optimizes the integration

of the best existing evidence in support of decisions to strengthen the quality and safety of the

patient experience (Johnson, 2020).

4 IMPACT OF EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE ON FACTORS INFLUENCING THE

ELEMENTS OF THE QUADRUPLE AIM

The creation and adoption of evidence-based practice are majorly to facilitate the

improvement of the quality of healthcare services that patients are offered and to place a high

value on patient care in clinical settings. Evidence-based practice also has a direct effect on

the work-life of the healthcare providers due to the fact that in order to receive safe and high-

quality healthcare services, the healthcare providers must be highly productive. The purpose

of each healthcare institution is to make sure that the life of patients and those of health care

workers offering the healthcare services are both improved (Bernadette Mazurek Melnyk,

Lynn Gallagher-Ford, & Ellen Fineout-Overholt, 2016).

8 PATIENT EXPERIENCE THE TECHNIQUES UTILIZED FOR EVIDENCE-

BASED PRACTICE WILL ALLOW HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS TO TRANSLATE

THE RESEARCH OUTCOME INTO THEIR CLINICAL PRACTICES. 9 BY USING

SUCCESSFUL RESEARCHING SKILLS OF LITERATURE AND APPLYING THE

RULES GUIDING EVIDENCE IN THE EVALUATION OF RESEARCH FINDINGS

FOR HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS THEY CAN EFFECTIVELY APPLY PRESENT

SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE TO ALL CLINICAL PRACTICE BASED ON

INDIVIDUAL REQUIREMENTS. This plays a huge role in improving the quality of

healthcare services that patients are offered. 8 RECENTLY, MANY HEALTHCARE

INSTITUTIONS ARE ADOPTING EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE IN ORDER FOR

SOLVING CLINICAL PROBLEMS THAT DIRECTLY AFFECT PATIENT CARE. This

is what has resulted in improved patient experiences. Evidence-based practice has a direct

impact on nurses, practitioners, and other healthcare staff. Through evidence-based practice,

healthcare workers can stay up to date with the new medical protocols that improve patient

care. Evidence-based practice also enables nurses to search for documented interventions that

match the condition of a patient, which helps in improving patient outcomes. Evidence-based

practice also helps the nurse in including patients in their own care plan, which makes the

patient feel like they have a role in their healthcare (Sikka, Morath, & Leape (2015).

9 POPULATION HEALTH THE EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE FOCUSES ON

EDUCATING THE PUBLIC ON THE INDIVIDUAL HEALTH DETERMINANTS,

BENEFITS AND LIMITATIONS OF TREATMENTS, CULTURAL PRACTICES, AND

HEALTHCARE. The healthcare institutions that incorporate evidence-based practice in

various population settings also focus on ensuring that there is equal distribution of resources

in achieving specific goals. Populations may be categorized based on their requirements as

outlined by socioeconomic status, support from family members as well as individual health

resources for the promotion of health. All processes of evidence-based practice within patient

care are particularly designed to satisfy individual patient needs and not to shape healthcare

logic based on subgroups. For instance, diabetes, obesity, and heart failure have become an

epidemic. Utilizing and comprehending evidence-based practice in order to follow new ways

in helping the population suffering from comorbidities will help achieve the quadruple aim

(Kim et al. (2016).

Additionally, implementing evidence-based practice in population health objectives in

developing easily accessible and time-effective tools in improving population health serves as

a success driver. Finding solutions for population health issues will affect even help in

reducing the cost of healthcare services by minimizing hospitalization, fewer hospital visits,

and fewer tests (Bernadette Mazurek Melnyk, Lynn Gallagher-Ford, & Ellen Fineout-Overholt,

2016).

Cost One of the main challenges for many healthcare facilities is directly linked to the measure

of per capita cost for healthcare since it requires the capturing of all healthcare measurement

of real costs as well as indexing of costs in the healthcare market. The most popular technique

used in measuring real costs is pricing and discounts. Most healthcare facilities have a huge

challenge to offer excellent and safe healthcare services at lower healthcare costs. When an

institution values the utilization of the latest technology, in improving efficiency and adopting

the most recent treatment techniques as manifested through evidence-based practice, the

quality of patient care and the costs automatically increases. This is due to the fact that, the

better the technology and the more recent the treatment, the more expensive it becomes to

acquire care. However, evidence-based practice has been proven to improve patient outcomes,

which leads to cost-effective care. Thus, evidence-based practice helps achieve cost measures

required to attain the quadruple aim (Sikka, Morath, & Leape (2015).

8 THE WORK-LIFE OF HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS THE FUNDAMENTAL OF A

CONDUCIVE HEALTHCARE ENVIRONMENT SHOULD STRIVE TO EMBRACE

INTERPROFESSIONAL COLLABORATION. Interprofessional collaboration has proven

to be among the leading contributors in improving patient health outcomes as well as the

satisfaction of healthcare workers. It also helps in minimizing instances of healthcare

providers’ burnout and turnover rates that promote workers' productivity. There are three

main components of an environment, and they are structural and policy elements as well as

of the healthcare institution promotes a positive and conducive working environment for the

workers, even their outcomes will increase, leading to improved patient care. When the

policies that govern the healthcare workers in the institution are favorable and foster a

positive working environment, the healthcare providers will have an excellent working

condition that will even affect their care delivery (Kim et al. (2016).

The policies may be such as respecting the diversity of individuals or accommodating different

cultural practices and beliefs of individuals. Including the healthcare providers in the

decision-making processes of the institution will make them feel appreciated and foster a

sense of belonging. It will also welcome opinions and new ideas from staff, which may be

necessary for improving healthcare delivery and patient care. It may also boost innovations

among healthcare providers, which may result in the development of new technologies in the

healthcare industry (Johnson, 2020).

In conclusion, healthcare institutions should embrace the evidence-based practice as a

priority in achieving the quadruple aim. Achieving the fourth aim in the quadruple aim is a

foundational component for all the other goals to be attained due to the fact that the

healthcare workforce is the backbone of a successful and efficient healthcare system

(Bernadette Mazurek Melnyk, Lynn Gallagher-Ford, & Ellen Fineout-Overholt, 2016).
