Walmart Company Walmart is a retailing organization that operates as a chain of hypermarkets,

grocery and discount stores. The primary operations of the store are grouped into four divisions,

that is, Walmart International, Sam’s Club, Walmart U.S, and Global e-commerce. There are

various retail formats offered by the company within these divisions including the supercenters,

hypermarkets, warehouse clubs, home improvement, and specialty electronics. The organization

thus provides an extensive selection of consumer products together with wireless, financial and

pharmacy services. Walmart is the company I aspire to work in the future. I have loved the training

the organization and most importantly, how it manages its workers. In my opinion, the

organization aims to get the best out of its workers and develop their skills for effective competition

in the global market.

Walmart performs the recruitment of its employees professionally and effectively. 3 THE

RECRUITMENT NEEDS OF THE COMPANY GET ADDRESSED BY HUMAN

RESOURCE MANAGEMENT THROUGH THE UTILIZATION OF DIFFERENT

RECRUITMENT SOURCES AND METHODS THAT ARE SUITED TO DIFFERENT

POSITIONS IN THE ORGANIZATION. MOREOVER, THE ORGANIZATION USES THE

INDUSTRY-SPECIFIC CRITERIA IN ITS SELECTION PROCESS (MEEKS & CHEN,

2011). I prefer working in this organization because it seeks to optimize employee retention where

the HRM uses strategies such as continually evolving compensation programs, together with

employee relations management and also take part in the career development programs that are

vital in enhancing employee skills.

Moreover, the HR managers also utilize other approaches to enhance the morale and motivate the

employee, and this is often vital in getting the best out of the workers. 3 BY USING A

COMBINATION OF METHODS AND STRATEGIES IN ADDRESSING THE BUSINESS

REQUIREMENTS DURING RECRUITMENT, SELECTION, AND RETENTION, THE

HRM OF THE ORGANIZATION HAS EFFECTIVELY MAINTAINED ADEQUATE

HUMAN RESOURCES TO SUPPORT THE CURRENT RETAIL OPERATIONS OF THE

ORGANIZATION AND PLANNED A FUTURE GLOBAL EXPANSION THAT IS OF

GREAT BENEFIT TO AN INDIVIDUAL DESIRING TO WORK IN THE

ORGANIZATION.

Approaches Used by Walmart in Recruitment Recruitment Resources The organization utilizes

both the internal and external sources of recruitment in different positions. Often, the domestic

sources focus on current employees to fill open or the newly established positions in the company.

On the other hand, external references are vital in examining the labor market to address the

objectives of human resource management in the company (Meeks & Chen, 2011). The combination

of these sources ensures that the organization is flexible enough in satisfying the needs of its human

resource.

3 RECRUITMENT METHODS WALMART USES DIRECT AND INDIRECT METHODS

OF RECRUITMENT. Direct is where the organization directly contacts potential employees. 3

FOR EXAMPLE, WALMART ORGANIZATION RECRUITS’ EMPLOYEES AT OR

THROUGH CAMPUSES. That is, the organization through its HR department contacts students

interested in applying for the job openings and through this, the students may get hired in the

process (Yue, Rao & Ingram, 2013). 3 THE METHOD IS VITAL SINCE IT ENABLES THE

COMPANY TO SPEED UP THE PROCESS OF RECRUITMENT INSTEAD OF HAVING

TO WAIT FOR THE APPLICANTS.

Conversely, the indirect method is used by the organization to reach out to numerous workers.

Indirect methods include concepts such as advertisements on the website of the organization and

other social media platforms. The ad reaches multiple individuals in various parts of the world, and

through this, the HR has a pool of skills from which they can recruit the best employees.

Selection Process at Walmart Selection Criteria The criteria used in the organization for selection is

based on job position. 3 THE PRIMARY CRITERIA UTILIZED IN THE ORGANIZATION

INCLUDE EDUCATION AND TRAINING BACKGROUNDS AND THE RESULTS OF

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS. FOR INSTANCE, WALMART USES

KNOWLEDGE RETENTION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS FOR HOURLY SALES

POSITIONS (NASIR, 2017). THE INTERPERSONAL SKILLS ARE CONSIDERED

VITAL FOR SUCH SITUATIONS SINCE SALES PERSONNEL INTERACT WITH THE

CUSTOMERS DIRECTLY. THE HR OF THE COMPANY ALSO USES PROBLEM-

SOLVING TECHNIQUES AND ANALYTICAL ABILITIES AND CONFLICT

MANAGEMENT SKILLS WHEN SELECTING INDIVIDUALS FOR MANAGERIAL

POSITIONS.

Methods and Techniques The HR for the company utilizes structured interviews and job knowledge

evaluation for most job positions in the company. The organization uses the structured interviews

in determining the details such as the expectations and perspective of the applicant about the

organization. The information is useful for Walmart since it is used to determine whether the

individual is fit for the job and also for the organization (Meeks & Chen, 2011). If a person lacks few

skills but has much of the qualifications required, such persons can be put into training programs

to enhance their skills and be a vital asset in the organization.

Despite the effectiveness of the selection and recruitment practices by the organization, I still think

there is a room for the organization to improve. One recommendation for the improvement is that

the organization should make use of its information system in determining which areas or aspects

of the organization will have a surplus or will face increased demand of the labor resources before

recruitment in the organization (Koca-Helvaci, 2015). The dependence in the internal sources can

sometimes not provide an accurate picture of what happens in the organization, but through an

information system, the HR needs can be determined. 4 ALSO, THE ORGANIZATION

SHOULD ATTEMPT TO BALANCE THE HR SUPPLY AND HR DEMAND BY

ENSURING THAT IT ACCESS ADEQUATE QUALIFIED WORKERS. With this, the

organization should ensure that the vacant positions are immediately filled and this can be

achieved by non-stop recruitment activities that will aid the organization to maintain an adequate

supply of human resources the changes in demand for workers at the stores.

The Effectiveness of Human Resource Planning The planning of the human resource has proved

vital to Walmart Company because it has enabled the HR to manage the workers within the

company. Also, the preparation is essential to these individuals since it promotes strategic decision

making, which also impacts on the recruitment, selection, and training of the employees (Chuang et

al., 2011). For an organization to accomplish its objectives, it is essential that the HR implement the

correct policies that will act as a guide to the employees and other people in the organization

through the scope of the organization. Also, through the human resource planning, the right people

get recruited and ensure that they work in proper positions. It also aids in hiring staff that is skillful

and right for the job. Such people will demonstrate the ability to finish their careers and behave

well at the workplace.

1 INFLUENCE OF TRAINING AND TALENT MANAGEMENT ON LABOR FORCE

TRAINING AND TALENT MANAGEMENT HAVE A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON THE

LABOR FORCE. For instance, the aspect ensures diversified human resource, and this has

resulted in flexibility within the workforce. Also, through training, Walmart has realized a

technologically savvy workforce. The aspect has enabled technological knowledge to get

incorporated into the program design of the company in training the employees (Meeks & Chen,

2011). The plan for training results in the improvement of the performance of the sales personnel

and the entire workforce and this also improves the output of the workforce.

Also, through training and analysis, the organization determines how various jobs fit the available

employees and the type of training these individuals need. Thus, in the process, these individuals

learn how the employee will meet in the business environment or whether the workers will satisfy

the business need and then given appropriate training to ensure they can perform within the

capacities of their job description. Talent management thus helps the workers develop their skills

and capabilities so that the organization can retain them.

Conclusion Walmart Company is one of the most significant organizations in the global map.

Through its HR department, the organization has ensured appropriate recruitment and selection

strategies that have resulted in success within the organization. The HR through its planning

processes have provided that the right people are selected for different jobs and that they can

perform. The employees lacking specific skills are put to various training sessions to sharpen their

skills and knowledge on the needs of the HR. Such factors have proved vital and have resulted in

success at Walmart Company.
