CSU will verify your participation of academically related activities for each registered course at the end of the first week. A Discussion Board posting, Unit Assessment, or other academically related activity must be submitted during the first week to verify course participation. Students who choose not to participate the first week will be institutionally dropped from the course.

Unit I Introduction

This week you will be introduced to information systems. It is not enough to know how to use email and search the web. You need to be able to apply technology to business problems and solve them effectively. In this unit, you will learn about the components of an information system and the role that each of them plays. We will also discuss the differences between information technology and information systems.

Your assignment in this unit will be a paper or scholarly activity. Answer the questions fully and in your own words. Also be sure to provide citations for your sources.

Instructions

Define what is meant by information.

Define what is meant by data.

Create two matrices (one for data and one for information) that illustrate the key differences

between information and data, place the matrices into your paper, and briefly discuss the

differences in one or two paragraphs. Each matrix should contain characteristics and/or facts

about the subjects (data and information) that show how they are different.

Define IT.

Define IS.

Using the five-component model as an example, discuss some differences between IT and IS.







In this unit, you have learned about management information systems (MIS) and the importance of it.

For this assignment, compose a paper that discusses the key differences between data, information,

information technology (IT), and information systems (IS). Your paper should address the

components listed below.

If you are using Microsoft Word, you can develop a matrix using this program. For an example of how

You may use another computer software program that you are familiar with to create the matrices.

However, you must submit your assignment in a Microsoft Word document, and the matrices should

Your paper must be a minimum of two pages in length (not counting the title and reference pages),

and you must use at least two resources as references. Any information from these resources must

be cited and referenced in APA format.
