The purpose of this article is to give an extended definition of how ubiquitous technology can help solve problems related close quarter housing.

Introduction

Creativity is increasingly recognized as being important to engineers. Creative problem solving is valuable in any design process but it’s of crucial importance in the conceptual design stage. One of the reasons for the development of the ubiquitous design for people living in close quarters is the issue of health. Actions and policies have to be created to improve the living conditions for such people. Safe drinking water supply reduced air pollution from household cooking, reduced noise, and reduced heat stress because of global climate change. The urban environment involves health hazards with an inequitable distribution of exposures and vulnerabilities but involves opportunities for implementing interventions for health equity. Interventions at higher policy levels that will create more sustainable living conditions and environments need to be made (Axelrod, et.al 2009).

Close Quarters: An Overview of Current Knowledge

Generally, people living in close quarters are crowded taking into consideration that it is more people living in a household that there is inadequate space to cater for them. Crowding can take place in both spatial density and social density respectively looking at the floor space per person and number of people in a household. Those in close quarters are more likely to be in low socioeconomic status, have low education status, poorer nutrition, and less medical care. Development of children from close quarters is affected due to lack of study and play areas. All of the above conditions call for a call of alarm to architects and engineers. They are educated and so have the knowledge to sort this problem out through developing ideas that need to be implemented to solve this problem out. This is where the strategy of ubiquitous designs has been brought about as it has been applied in hospitals and prisons and has worked (Kuniavsky, 2010).

Better interior designing in houses will make houses in close quarters safer. The central architectural challenge in supporting computational needs of mobile users is to satisfy two competing goals. The first is to maximise the use of available resources – that is, effectively exploiting the increasingly pervasive computing and communication resources in our environments. The second is to minimize user distraction and drains on user attention. Developing effective models for ubiquitous computing systems will clearly be crucial to their success yet at best, system designers poorly understand this issue.

Examples Of Computing Projects To Deal With Close Quarters

Several computing examples of projects have been put forward as follows; the cool town project, the media cup project, Lancaster guide system, and Xerox Parc’s ubiquitous computing experiment. From a technical perspective, many of these experiments have developed common problems in developing deployable prototypes. Energy concerns affected many aspects of the systems designs leading to inaccurate sensor readings. The above computing systems are faced be several challenges but challenges have to be met in order for a goal to be achieved (Kidd et .al, 1999).

The first challenge is component interaction where there is lack of support from inter-component communication. Here, metrics such as performance, reliability and competition have to be shown. The second challenge is adaptation and contextual sensitivity where the computing component function is subject to change. Adaptation is also a key factor here. The third component is appropriate management mechanisms and policies where within the context of a single administrative domain, mismanagement is likely to occur. The combination of requirements of low administration, multi-domain management and support for rapid configuration will often lead to new challenges for system management.

The fourth one is lack of viable economic models and infrastructure. Definitely, such systems require a lot of revenue. The fifth issue is user interface integration where the infrastructure’s capabilities directly affect directly affect the user interface. So support for the user interface become an issue for all components at whatever level of the system they operate. The above strategies are a bit challenging hence maybe several suggestions below can help in the way the people living in close quarters can handle a disaster (Axelrod, et.al 2009).

Elements to save space inside houses of people living in close quarters.

Several interior elements of space can be used such as shape, form, texture, colour, mass, line, pattern, light, proportion, rhythm, emphasis, balance and harmony. All these aspects can be used to enhance the efficiency of the people while taking away all the negative aspects of the whole concept of depression and other psychological and physical effects of isolation. In order for someone to work in the area, they have to be familiar with the place and create good conduct with the people in it. These two things are what provide a good working area for people (Axelrod, et.al 2009).

Whenever people are faced with disasters that get hard to control, the first thing they think of is escaping. The big question is where do these people run to? Do they get conditions like those of where they were living? Most probably they get back to similar conditions. A solution has to be looked for therefore and I think the best decision is reducing the space inside the houses. Yes, one cannot control the fact that e space they are living in is small but one can control the way they live in the space. Living in a small room actually makes someone creative. In the bedroom, for example, cheap storage hacks can be implemented in a space enough for one to stand and can fit all clothes not to mention shoes and accessories. Making furniture that serves multiple functions is also an alternative and storage that is a snap to assemble and disassemble make it fun to do more with less. Instead of making a single bed for the children make a double-decker as it will save on space (Kidd et .al, 1999).

Also, make furniture that serves multiple purposes such as tables with drawers and beds with drawers. They will serve their purpose and also get used for storage. Making shelves and drawers on the wall to store books and also clothes is also an apparent alternative. In the kitchen,make pins on walls to ensure some items are hanged on the wall. Tin the bathroom too make some pins and also add decorations. In short, it is all about making everything in life get measured by quality not quantity (Axelrod, et.al 2009).

Government involvement in helping solve problems related to close quarters.

When it comes to recreation, I think there should be common places set for recreation around close quarters. The government should set apart some land with parks and swimming pools where people can sit down and have conversations and parties away from their quarters. Here, children can get land to play games like football and enjoy activities such as swimming. Also, there are many other ways of recreation even inside a well organised closed quarter. People can play video games and many others that involve working inside the house. Children can also involve in activities such as storytelling. I think this is a problem that also can to some point be solved on our own.

Demographics

According to Exponential Growth of populations,“The world’s accelerating population growth is a major concern in terms of how our planet can feed and provide fuel for the current 7.2 billion plus people who currently live in our world”(“Exponential Population Growth”). The graph shows what the past population and the future population. Figure 2 shows the poor population and the rich population.

Closing

Also it is important to understand that as the days go by population in the world increases and one of the problems related to high population is poor housing (Kuniavsky, 2010). Hence something has to be done still to reduce the birth rate. As the population still increases it is good to understand that the gap between the rich and the poor increases.
