__A descriptive or suggestive title of the paper is centered and precedes the first paragraph.

__The introduction is engaging with a strategy to grab the reader’s attention.

__Background information (the bridge) leads up to the thesis (author, title, genre, textual history and publication (3-4 sentences)

__The thesis sentence at the end of the first paragraph is clear and focused: may be argumentative or interpretative.

Provide a context:

__What was happening at the time the text was created?

Discuss any topic such as characters, symbols, themes, conflicts, race, gender conflicts, etc.

__Paper is 1-2 pages long.

__Demonstrates awareness of mature use of language, sense of audience, and word choice.
