Rubric for Discussion Board Assignment
This rubric will be used to evaluate and score your weekly Discussion Board assignments (both Q&A Discussion Forum and Critical Comment Forum).
Levels of Achievement

0 to 0.8 points Questions are short- sighted or derivative of others' work; they may lack relevance to required topic areas and require little thought in answering. May fail to ask two questions.
0.9 to 1 points Questions are shallow or lack sufficient importance or relevance to required topic areas.
1.1 to 1.2 points Questions show original thinking and a good understanding of important issues relating to required topic areas.
1.3 to 1.5 points Questions are highly original, penetrating and provocative. Insightfully cuts to the heart of important issues relating to required topic areas.
Answers: Content knowledge demonstrated
0 to 2.5 points Answers are incomplete or incorrect. Lack of evidence of understanding of relevant content or concepts. Answers show confusion or lack of critical thinking. Answers may be repetitive of others' work and are not likely to promote further conversation or debate. Answers fall far short of recommended word- count range.
2.6 to 2.9 points Answers are mostly on track but remain on the surface or miss some important content or concepts. Some ability to conceptualize essential ideas but this is inconsistent. Lack of depth and focus decreases likeliness to promote further conversation or debate. Answers fall a little short of the recommended word- count range or exceed it by including tangential and irrelevant content.
3 to 3.5 points Answers show clear understanding of relevant content and concepts but may lack depth in some areas. Sufficient substance for further conversation and critique is provided. Supporting material is appropriate. Answers fall within recommended word- count range.
3.6 to 4 points Answers show evidence of exemplary understanding of important and relevant content and concepts. Answers are insightful, thought-provoking, comprehensive, and likely to promote further substantive conversation and debate. Secure grasp of inner relationship of issues and concepts; supporting material is on point and expertly selected. Answers fall within recommended word-count range while being both concise and thorough.

Critical comments
0 to 1.7 points Critical comments are provided for fewer than two Q&A peer discussions or if two comments are posted, they fall far short or recommended word- count range. Comments fail to measure up to the level of critique; they are simply reactions to peer posts and contain no real analysis or evaluation of argumentation or points made in the discussions being critiqued. Comments exhibit little or no understanding of the elements of critique.
1.8 to 2.1 points Critical comments to at least two peer Q&A peer discussions are completed but may be short of recommended word-count range. Some of the elements of an effective critique are missing: Analysis and evaluation of both questions and answers are incomplete or fragmentary. Critical comments fail to adequately point out weaknesses and/or strengths of the argumentation appearing in the answers being critiqued.
2.2 to 2.6 points Critical comments to at least two peer Q&A peer discussions are completed and are within recommended word-count range. Many of the elements of an effective critique are employed: Analysis and evaluation of both questions and answers show a satisfactory grasp of the issues addressed. Critical comments manage to point out weaknesses and/or strengths of the argumentation appearing in the answers being critiqued but resulting evaluations may not be fully supported.
2.7 to 3 points Critical comments to at least two peer Q&A peer discussions are completed and are within recommended word-count range. All the elements of an effective critique are employed: Analysis and evaluation of both questions and answers are incisive and show a strong grasp of the issues addressed. Critical comments point out weaknesses and/or strengths of the argumentation appearing in the answers being critiqued and provide a clear rationale for the evaluations advanced in the critiques.

1.1 to 1.2 points Writing uses straightforward language that generally conveys meaning to readers. Errors in grammar, spelling, and writing are minimal and do not impede comprehensibility. Points of argumentation and ideas expressed show some effort put into organization. All sources are appropriately used and cited.
1.3 to 1.5 points Writing employs graceful and effective use of language that skillfully communicates meaning to readers with clarity, fluency, and is virtually error-free. Points of argumentation and ideas expressed are carefully organized. All sources are appropriately used and cited.
