PICOT Questions: in a medical-surgical hospital unit (P), how does the implementation of the hourly nursing rounding (I) affect the safety of the patient (O) compared to the no schedule rounding (C) within 6 months of implementation (T)?

Discussion of the strategies for conducting a systematic search or review of the literature to help in responding to the questions

The first approach that will be used in the search of the literature is based on the use of the key terms. The key terms looked at including hourly nursing rounding, the safety of the patient, the hospital setting, and the satisfaction of the patients as well as nurses. Another search strategy will involve the process of looking at the affiliation of the authors. The affiliation of the authors will reveal the experience of the authors on the specific topic being presented and its importance on studying how the nursing hourly rounding is helping in the improvement of the patients' safety. The search strategy will also involve the process of reviewing the abstract presented in the article to be used. The abstract helps in revealing the overall details of the articles including the methods of the study, the objectives, and the findings of the study among others (Tawfik, et al., 2019).

How to critically appraise the literature selected to help in determining the best evidence for the assignment

The first step in appraising the literature selected is through looking at the research methods, for example, the research questions, the type of the study design employed, the outcome factors and their measurement, the study factors and their measurements, the statistical methods employed in the study, the statistical outcomes, and the conclusions that are developed based on the research questions as well as the presented ethical issues. The overview of the paper is also looked at for example the publishing journal and the year of publication, the title of the article and whether it contains the trial objectives, and the authors and their institutions. The abstract is also looked at so that the overall information presented is known for example the aim of the study, the materials and the methods employed, the study outcomes, and the conclusions. Other sections looked at are the introduction of the study background, the methods and the materials used, the research outcomes, the discussion sections, and the research questions adopted (Al-Jundi & Sakka, 2017).
