chap 5-6
Discussion Board Rubric
NOTE: If you want to rack up the most points, aside from exams, you must excel in the Discussion Boards (DBs). For every DB post, you must use appropriate grammar and respond to two classmates’ post. Your responses to your classmates must surpass three full sentences.
You are to only cite the course textbook. If you cite off of the Internet you will receive 0 points for the entire post. In order to obtain points, you have to provide analysis, cite correctly, and provide more than a load of citations.
Oftentimes, you will find that I will privately reply to your DB posts and ask you to visit the rubric. When I tell you to look at the rubric, do so immediately so that you can learn from your mistakes and correct your errors in future DB posts. You cannot resubmit a DB post. Once you submit a DB post, there is no going back.
Sometimes I will create my own thread and post my reflections for the chapter(s) that we will be analyzing, feel free to reply to me because that will count as you responding to a student.
Rules
1. Make sure that the way in which you answer the questions are organized and numerically align with the questions.
Example: Question 1. Question 2.
Your answer: Question1. Type your answer.
Question 2. Type your answer.
DBs are due on Sundays 11:59pm, the time that the week’s DB will automatically close down. You must submit it before that time or you will lose access to it as you type.
Remember, others are reading your post (myself included). We need to make sense of what you type.
2. Student does not respond to two classmates, still loses points if student only responds to one classmate. Violation of this rule will cost you -5points.
3. Student uses less than 3 sentences to respond to classmates; student will still receive full point deduction if student only responds to one classmate. Please refrain from only telling classmates that you “agree” with what they write, and instead tell us WHY you agree or disagree and ask them questions. Your job is to engage in dialogue with your classmates. Violation of this rule will cost you -5points.
4. Student does not respond to DB questions in the number of paragraphs required. Violation of this rule will cost you -5points.
5. Student does not cite from the course textbook at all or at least the number of times required. Student must use MLA format when citing. Violation of this rule will cost you -10 points.
6. Student partially responds to questions on DB. Violation of this rule will cost you -5.
7. Student does not respond to any of the questions on the DB. Violation of this rule will cost you -25.
8. Student does not use appropriate college level grammar in DB post. Violation of this rule will cost you -3.
9. Student cites from the Internet when instructions say otherwise. Violation of this rule will cost you -25.
10. Student only provides a data dump, an excessive amount of citations from the textbook, without actually providing any analysis. Violation of this rule will cost you -10 points.
11. Student only provides a summary straight out of the textbook without providing any analysis. Violation of this rule will cost you -5 points.
12. Student does not use consistent font in either his main post or responses to classmates. Violation of this rule will cost you -1point.
13. Student does not indent paragraphs and/or presents a sloppy post that is extremely difficult for the professor to read and understand. Violation of this rule will cost you -1point.
14. If the student first provides a blank post as a thread the student will receive 0 points. In this course posting a blank post first is cheating. No student is to post a blank post first. All students are required to do the assigned readings and respond to the questions. Posting a blank thread/post as a way to peek on others’ posts is technically plagiarizing. I rather students not do the assignment than turn to this. Personally, I find it offensive. To avoid this familiarize yourself with how to post on BlackBoard and type your answers on a word doc first and then copy and paste it into the BB thread. -25
15. If a student posts a thread with half of the assignment and follows it with another thread/post with the remainder the student will only be graded for the very first Discussion Board post. NO EXCUSES. All DB posts must be in one post. All students are to refrain from submitting partial posts.
Please note: I assure you that I will always read every DB you post. Follow the rules so that you do not lose points.
