HEA 540 Milestone One Guidelines and Rubric
Institutional Overview Overview: In this first milestone toward the final project, you will provide an institutional overview that establishes the context for your academic program evaluation. Prompt: Academic programs exist within the context of a larger educational institution. In order to appropriately plan for a program evaluation, you need to understand this larger context. This first milestone offers you the opportunity to explore the institution in the case study or your selected institution, an opportunity for continuous improvement, and the required quantitative and qualitative data from both internal and external sources. Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:
Describe the institution and the specific program or initiative being addressed. What are the program’s history and role or purpose? What are the expectations of the program as it currently exists?
Determine an opportunity for continuous improvement within this program or initiative. Support your response with quantitative and qualitative data that you have collected from the program. For instance, what data confirms that the program is not performing as it should? What institutional goals informed your decision?
Incorporate relevant data from outside the academic institution to support your determination. For example, what are the institutional/national standards, milestones, benchmarks, and/or trends that the program is not performing well against?
Discuss what additional quantitative or qualitative data would be relevant to your evaluation and which assessment tools would you use to collect this additional data.
Rubric Guidelines for Submission: Your paper should be submitted as a 5- to 8-page (including title and reference pages) Microsoft Word document with headings, double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, one-inch margins, and sources cited in APA format.
