Guidelines: Discussion Board is opened for at least 1 week
Student must make one or more posts each week
Initial post must be at least 50 words, but no more than 250 words
Subsequent posts must be at least 25 words, but no more than 200 words
Identify references and citations (not included in word count)

Does not post any response or the post is not relevant to the questions assigned. None of the posts within the word count range - either over or under.
Responds to the discussion with superficial thought and preparation; doesn’t address all aspects of the task or the post lacks a development of the concepts. Some posts within the word count range, but one or both comments over or under.
Postings reflect the readings and outside information. They are well developed according to the assignment that fully addresses and develops all aspects of the task. Original post and comments within the word count range.
Quality of Reply to Classmates’ postings
Posts no follow-up responses to others or their response is not relevant to the original posting.
Posts are a shallow contribution to the discussion (i.e. I agree or disagree, I like your comment).
Elaborates on an existing post with further comment or observation. Response is relevant to post and supports position with factual information, demonstrating analysis of others’ posts.
Timeliness / Frequency
Postings are after discussion deadline dates or expected frequency.
The initial or response postings are after the required time frame or all postings are on the last week/day. Number of posts are less than required.
Post initial discussion contribution and responses to classmates’ postings are within instructor time frames contributing to the online community classroom. Makes multiple posts.
Understanding of References & Source material
Does not include any references, experience, or mention materials from the readings.
Uses personal experience, or makes reference to readings.
Uses references to readings, or personal experience and outside source material to support comments. Demonstrates understanding of material and properly cites information.
Grammar & Citations
Posts unorganized or rude content. There are multiple grammatical errors or other content that may be inappropriate.
Communicates in friendly, courteous and helpful manner with some errors in clarity or mechanics.
Contributes valuable information to discussion with minor clarity or mechanics errors. Contributes to discussion with clear, concise comments formatted in an easy to read style that is free of grammatical or spelling errors.
