To get a good mark you should:

1. Make sure your text is more argumentation than description.

2. Structure your text in a way that clearly addresses the presentation and essay question.

3. Communicate the logic of your argument to the listener/reader. It is especially

important to do this in the introductory paragraph of the presentation and the

introductory paragraph of the essay. This should be where you concisely signpost every

stage of your argument. Don’t begin with definitions of key terms. This is a waste of

time/space.

4. Synergise the readings into your argument. Do not present the readings sequentially as

e.g. author 1, then author 2, then author 3 etc.

5. Support your claims with evidence from academic readings.

6. Substantively reference academic readings: at least 3 in your presentation and

at least 6 in your essay. Make sure these are readings you have read in full (i.e. the whole

article or whole chapter, but not the whole book) and that are meaningfully linked with

one another.

7. Reference using Harvard with page numbers and include a properly formatted

bibliography (including on your presentation slides).

8. Make sure your paraphrasing really is in your own words. Make sure you are not using

chunks of the readings with only slight word changes as the building blocks of yo
