Student Interview
1. What approaches do you use for Stress Management?
Besides the traditional educational background that was tailored toward meeting the academic needs of the students, the modern education approaches have been designed in a manner that is all-rounded and contributes significantly to the progress of all students (Carson, 2016). As such, attention should be paid by the university to address the unique needs of the traditional and non-traditional students, local and international students, and the students in recovery, those who are veterans and more importantly those who experience stress from different sources and in different ways. One of the key things to address the challenge of stress management is encouraging the coordination between the physical, psychological and soul.
Spiritual nourishment means being right with my creator, something that I have always aspired to do every time I am stressed. The fact that I am a Christian has seen me spend moments when I am stressed reading the word of God and seeking answers to the various stressors that could be undermining my inner peace. It is important to underscore the fact that academic performance cannot be achieved if every aspect of the body is not alright. This is why the issue of stress management should be accorded priority as much as possible. I have had experience of the university students who have taken away their lives because of being subjected to stressful moments that pushed them to committing suicide. It is unfortunate that spiritual answers derived from holy books such as the Bible and Quran among others that deem the life of human beings as sacred and special could have helped them out of those stressful moments.
2. Do you think Intellectual Wellness alone is sufficient to achieve remarkable academic performance?
Intellectual wellness is only but one of the primary determinants of life success. Hence, it is not sufficient to achieving remarkable performance in the education setting. As mentioned earlier, intellectual skills are at their lowest when the physical, spiritual and mental frameworks are not at balance. It hence follows that intellectual wellness alone is not sufficient to enhance remarkable performance in the education setting.
3. Do you think religion should be encouraged in the university?
The significant role that religion plays in the lives of students cannot be overlooked. As mentioned earlier, spiritual nourishment is one of the major sources of spiritual health. Leading a healthy life necessitates spiritual wellness and religion is the source of spiritual wellness. Spirituality has been used in the modern college environment as a remedy to life issues such as drug and substance abuse, sexuality, morality, ethics, and stress management (Van, 2017). Religion is necessary to understand relationship health. Religion is a unifying factor among different groups of the people. This means that it has also contributed significantly in enhancing social wellness which is also critical in developing an all-rounded person. Religion is necessary in enhancing family values, ethics and moral principles that are significant to develop an upright society.
4. How can the university participate in enhancing spiritual wellness of the students?
Sponsoring spiritual mentorship programs for each religion represented in the university is of importance. Secondly, the university should come up with a policy that bars discrimination of the students on the basis of religion and that which that the representatives of each religion are represented in the management team to make sure that each religious group has a chance to air their views and concerns to cultivate a culture of understanding and accommodation among all students. The other way of enhancing spiritual wellness among students is giving the students the freedom to worship. The administration should facilitate the construction of worship sites such as the mosque and church, providing religious materials such as the Bible and partner with religious organizations to facilitate programs that are aimed at enhancing the spiritual wellness of the students.
5. What challenges are triggered by spiritual issues in the modern society?
There are so many issues that are contributed by a lack of spiritual wellness in the modern society. These include immorality, corruption that has cost nations and global societies immensely, drug and substance abuse that has destroyed many youngsters and unethical practices that have led to lack of conscious when it comes to unfair practices such as discrimination and unfounded stereotypes. It is hence important for the university to recognize the role played by religion among the students and devise appropriate strategies aimed at facilitating spiritual wellness (Sims, 2017).
It should be noted that the primary goal of the university as a learning and social institution is to cultivate a group of men and women who are responsible of their actions and who deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. It follows that nothing can be successful if any of these aspects is lacking. The transition from high school life should be given great attention such that the spiritual momentum from the former levels of learning is carried forward and enhanced to avoid negative peer influence that is highly detrimental when it comes to the growth and sustainability of the students.
6. What is your deepest spiritual attention?
My deepest spiritual attention is being right with my maker. This is the only time I can worship and perform other religious duties. Being right with the maker enhances understanding and gives one the confidence to read the word of God and walk in the ways that are fulfilling before God and other people. Becoming a God fearing person is not a one-time event nor is it a walk in the park. It requires resilience, commitment, perseverance and more importantly adherence to the religious norms that guide the code of conduct and behavior toward people themselves and others. It hence follows that at any given time, I will make effort to ensure that I am right with my maker and cope up well with the proceeds of life.
