Statement of the Problem
In this section of your proposal, identify the crime that is present in your community. Identify what is not yet known about the relationships between that particular crime and its effect on the community. Describe the existing gap in the literature that your study would intend to address.
Research Question
State the research question the study would explore. It should be proposed in terms of the relationship between variables pertinent to the crime issue you identified.
Definition of Research Variables
Provide conceptual definitions of the key variables you need to measure.
Research Design
Provide a brief overview of the type of research design proposed (e.g., survey, experiment, analysis of existing data). Explain how you would measure each variable in your study.
Population
Identify the target population (including size of the population and other demographic and socioeconomic conditions, if known). If you plan to use existing data, describe the population used. Describe the population in specific, concrete terms.
Sampling
Explain how you would sample your target population and why you selected this method. Provide a justification for why the method is appropriate for the population and research question.
Instrumentation
If you are creating your own survey instrument, provide a list of the survey questions you would ask your sample. If you are using existing data, be sure to provide evidence of reliability and validity and a description of the sample, concepts, and measures used in the original study. Also identify any limitations of the existing data.
