Reflection Questions

Prepare a budget for a lower class life-style for a person who is a young, single, childless adult. Research the typical amount of money a person in poverty receives each month through a minimum wage job without benefits or full-time hours. Find out the typical costs of : rent, car payment/insurance, groceries, utilities, furniture, clothes etc. Discuss how this fits with the American Dream.

How would you counsel a student that is at risk of dropping out of school? Strategies? Discuss specifically how you would try to develop a relationship with this student?

Reflection Questions

What would be the “touchy” values issues that would be difficult to explore with clients? For example, would helping a client deal with an unwanted pregnancy be a strain? What if the client was trying to decide if she wanted to have an abortion? Or, what would it be like if a client, said, “Do you believe in Jesus?  

Do you think that Christian career counseling has advantages over other counseling techniques? Why or why not?
