Title of the Research

Strategic talent management: A macro and micro analysis of current issues in tourism sector in Oman.

Introduction:

Talent management focuses on the future needs of the organization. It works within a strategic framework of the companies' future goals by identifying the positions necessary for growth and the best candidates to fill that position. There is agreement that talent management is the implementation of integrated strategies or systems designed to improve the processes of recruiting and developing people, retaining those with the required skills, and preparing to meet current and future organizational needs.

Also, there are many international reports on the good growth of tourism in Oman, despite the conditions that the region is going through. Among the most famous reports published by Cluttons Estate Agent Oman in 2018 regarding real estate developments in the first profit, the company focused on the largest part of the profit, which is tourism developments in Oman. The Omani government affirms the enhancement of overall economic growth in Oman. The report also stresses the importance of the tourism sector in promoting this growth during the next phase, indicating that this sector is considered one of the most important and vital sectors in the economy. In addition to that from the report of the World Travel and Tourism Council, this sector represents a bright future in the Sultanate of Oman.

Nowadays, the tourism economy in the Sultanate of Oman has been severely affected by the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, and the rate of moderate decline in the international tourism economy may range between 60-80%. This pandemic is an unprecedented crisis for the tourism economy, and above all it is a humanitarian crisis that affects the lives of people and has also caused a global economic crisis, in addition to the tourism sector, and this is very important for many people, companies and places.

The impact of this crisis has become felt throughout the entire tourism ecosystem, and it will require reopening and rebuilding some destinations for companies and workers in the tourism sector to benefit from stimulus packages at the economic level. Where many governments have introduced measures for tourism, for example, lifting travel restrictions, applying health guidelines to travel safely, restoring travelers' confidence, making them feel safe and secure, applying information to visitors, and local tourism promotion campaigns. Revitalize plans to revive tourism and encourage innovation, and more must be done in coherent ways as tourism services are linked together.

Looking to the future, the measures implemented today will shape tomorrow's tourism. This crisis has made an opportunity to rethink tourism in the future, and attention must be given to this issue. Work must be done to equip famous places here in Amman by restoring and designing them well to attract tourists and has developed itself to manage talents in Oman's tourism strategy.

Strategic talent management: A macro and micro analysis of current issues in tourism sector in Oman.

Sheehan, MauraGrant, Kirsteen; Garavan, Thomas

Although illustrating opportunities and obstacles for TM policies and practices, a critical discussion of macro- and micro-level variables is presented. The effect of senior executives in TM growth, with focus on small and medium-sized companies, is analyzed and examples of 'best practice' in TM are highlighted.

It is imperative that policymakers assume a greater leadership role in shaping the training and education agenda, given the size and significance of the sector to economic growth. TM activities need to reflect the uniqueness and complexity of the industry and CEO/Owner-Manager dedication and cascading down of a talent mind-set/culture within organizations requires successful implementation of TM.Examples of best practice in TM provide the industry with a considerable opportunity to strengthen both its employer branding and competitiveness. Examples include: aligning TM with strategic business objectives; providing comprehensive data generated through HR functions; and demonstrating TM's effect on the enhanced emotional work of employees through higher levels of commitment, motivation and organizational performance.

Subrahmanian Muthuraman

; Mohammed Al Haziazi

One of the world's most prosperous economic activities is tourism. On the Arabian Peninsula, the Sultanate of Oman is an emerging tourist destination. Tourism encounters are the main product of the tourism industry, with a direct effect on the happiness of visitors. More recently, there has been a paradigm shift in tourism towards more user-friendly intelligent systems called smart tourism' based on information technology.A smart tourism destination is defined by a high degree of creativity and facilitation using interfaces and higher order technology. Four main information and communication technologies are used by Smart Tourism: IoT, mobile communication, cloud computing, and intelligent artificial intelligence.Tourism's future is dependent on technological progress and its swift and systematic implementation at all levels of the tourism sector. 6 Tourism destinations, such as attractions, accessibility, facilities, packages accessible, activities and ancillary services, would promote a dynamic process of co-creation to improve the attractiveness of destinations. These 6 A's would add value to the tourist experience along with the smart app. There will be tremendous opportunities for the growth of new businesses that can demonstrate new exploration for Sustainable Development in Oman as tourism experiences progress in becoming smart.

The need for a Tourism Strategy

James Wilson

The government aims to establish and promote a number of destinations or clusters across the sultanate, in addition to growing hotel stock and jobs, offering tourists a wider range of experiences, with the intention of promoting extended visits and greater interaction with the culture and natural sites of the region. While the government wants its already strong domestic tourism market to be sustained and expanded, the new policy puts a strong focus on promoting Oman as a destination for foreign tourists who might have overlooked the country for other destinations in the area or beyond in the past.

Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort and Spa General Manager Mark Kirk believes it is a necessity to make the tourism sector and the country more attractive to investors, as their fiscal support would be decisive in the effective creation of the modern tourism infrastructure. "The government must make concessions on the targets of Omanization, encourage airlines to land in Oman, and pursue visa liberalization," he said.

Oman seeks to diversify tourism

James Wilson

Oman launched its National Tourism Strategy (NTS) in early 2016 with the goal of doubling the number of international tourist arrivals to the country by 2020. If the target is accomplished successfully, the contribution of the sector to annual GDP is projected to increase to more than 6 percent, up from the 2.6 percent recorded in 2015.

The plan also calls for 14 tourism clusters to be created, which are hoped to draw more visitors and encourage longer visits. Sites designated for development include areas of natural interest in the mountains and deserts of the country, as well as existing tourist spots, such as the Musandam Peninsula in the north; the Salalah Frankincense Trail; and the capital's old cultural areas, Muscat. In the coming years, master plans for the growth of each of these destinations and the necessary infrastructure improvements will be developed and implemented.

Tourist attractions in the Sultanate of Oman

Ehsan Al Uqla

There are several beaches, such as Seib Beach, which is distinguished by its soft sand, and swimming, kitesurfing, diving, snorkeling, boating, and surfing are possible, and there is Qurum Beach, which offers hotel facilities, and it is for family reunions, and includes restaurants, cafes, and trips such as fishing and boating.

There is a turtle reserve in Ras Al Jinz in the South, and it contains many turtles that have been living for more than a hundred years, migrating from the Indian Ocean longitudinally and crosswise, and returning every year to lay their eggs on the beaches of Ras Al-Hadd, Al Jinz, and Masirah Island, and there are many dolphins that frequently come close to the Omani Coasts, and can be clearly seen near the coast, and Al Jinz Island. And there are whales, particularly in the eastern regions and the Dhofar region, that come to the seas at irregular intervals and are regarded as pride or tropical whales. The most common of these seas are the blue, the humpback, the amber, the dwarf amber, the Cuvier-beak, and the Pygmy Killer.

Desert safari: the most prominent of its camel cups is the Omani desert, which features sand dunes reaching a height of about two hundred meters and is the most wonderful and beautiful occurrence in the region at sunset.

Caves: The country includes caves of varying sizes, topography, and roughness, such as the cave of Wadi Bani Khalid in the eastern region, and the second largest cave-containing ecosystem.

Markets: there are many large markets, there are places to buy handicrafts that are often crowded with visitors, and among these crafts: silver, gold, textiles, antiques, and daggers from Oman.

In the city of Muscat, there are 3 landmarks:

1- Grand Mosque of Sultan Qaboos

It is the largest mosque in the Sultanate of Oman and one of the most popular tourist attractions in Oman, as it dazzles tourists with its unique architectural design, and the fountains are spread on its flanks, and with its delicate Islamic inscriptions it has several domes, and the outer courtyard of the mosque is adorned with a wide dome with a chandelier, the second largest in the world. The walls are mosaic as well. And whoever is fortunate is permitted to go up the minaret to see the city of Muscat with all its characteristics in a detailed view.

A large library is attached to the mosque, containing more than 20,000 books from the most important books in all branches of theological and legal sciences, hadith, jurisprudence, etc., and there are also halls attached to the mosque for lectures and seminars, where many religious events are conducted on all occasions.

2- The House of the Royal Opera

Oman Tourism

Royal House of Opera

Construction of the Royal Opera House began in 2007 by order of Sultan Qaboos, and it was officially opened in October 2011, and is the first opera house in the Arab Gulf region, and was built in the modern Omani style, with the intention of being a beacon for the dissemination of arts, culture and thought, and a bridge for communication between the Omani people and the peoples of the Omani people.

In addition to another hall where the various celebrations and conferences are held and a section for artistic and operatic production, surrounded by lush gardens, shopping centers and several luxurious restaurants, the opera house can accommodate 1100 spectators, and it is made up of the main exhibition hall.

Tourism in Oman is involved in pursuing these performances in a magical atmosphere with the various services, visits by foreign artistic groups and the presentation of their artistic performances at the theaters of the Royal Opera House, and in seizing the opportunity to visit its tourist attractions and great monuments.

3- Palace of Al Alam

The Royal Alam Palace is considered one of the most popular tourist attractions in Oman, but we are here in front of another type of spectacle, where the visitor is struck by the simplicity and the distance from the exaggeration in the style of construction, despite the fact that this palace has been designated for official meetings of kings and presidents visiting the Sultanate of Oman. The palace is to be used in most of the buildings in polished white marble, and since the palace is dedicated to the Sultanate's guests, a private villa has been reserved and decorated to suit their high status and fitted with a swimming pool, spa and health club and all the needs of the guests, and it is also worth a visit to be a tourist attraction in Oman.
