Rough Draft

Think of a rough draft in terms of a cooking show. If you were asked to make cookies for someone, you would never say, "I have flour and some chocolate chips. I still need to buy some more ingredients (find more examples) and put it all together (actually type up the draft), but I know what I'm doing!

Nope. You would say, here's my finished cookie. What do you think? Should I add chocolate chips (more examples)? Put in less salt (cut out unnecessary details). In this case, your peer can assess what is working and what is not working because there is a product. That is what you're aiming for!

I am expecting an introduction, a minimum of two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. When you post your rough draft, use the comments space on the right to answer this question:

How do you feel about the draft you brought today? How have you adjusted your outline or plan?

Once the drafts are posted, I will assign peer reviews. You will use the questions on the first page of the  Peer Edit Essay 1

Please note that you will be scored both on the feedback you give your peer and on what you do with the feedback you received. Once you have your feedback, go back to the  Peer Edit Essay 1  handout and complete the questions on the second page. Those points count toward your grade. This assignment is part of the process for the essay. I have put a point value on it to give you an idea of how confident I am about your draft. If you do not get seven points, it means that you are not likely to get a passing grade on your essay. Now is the time to make big changes! Visit the writing center or set up a zoom session with me to address the concerns your peers and/or I have with the essay.
