This point highlight one of the main idea of the authors as illustrating critical steps in attaining ethical scholarship in publications. We framed our main research question as “What factors are associated with errors that new graduate students make in using APA style in citation lists (Van Note Chism & Weerakoon, 2012). In light of many students making so many errors is due to the process that students weren’t being trained properly to cite correctly and learn APA
format. Therefore, mistakes were going to be made if students never learned how to do the work correctly. In order to eliminate the mistakes, proper training is necessary. Many students have lack of motivation to learn the correct format.
However, three task performance analyses were performed on the formatting tasks of APA where interviews and observations were used too in order to collect information on the failures or success while using this style sheet. Students were scored on how well they knew APA and the results were disappointing for a few because they generally already knew many kids didn’t know proper APA formatting and no one received a perfect score based on their performance results. Evaluations are needed to allow educators to know the status of the learning ability of the students. Skill learning is the key to help students get to the graduate level where they need to be.
Additionally, educators need to emphasize more on the importance of APA format and learn how to go more in-depth to what it consist of step by step. When certain students reach certain grades, let’s no assume that they already know the format. Due to the fact that it was proven that many kids was taught APA, but they weren’t taught correctly. Proper training should be required for educators to make sure they received the proper training themselves to teach students correctly. Students need to be properly train on proper APA format. Also, many students know that there’s alternative ways to help them site references and for them to use the internet Google Scholar that will help them find sample citations that will help them. The problem is students say they don’t trust those sites and most of them aren’t user friendly.
