Rubric for Role Play Presentation (20pts)

Role play exercises gives students the opportunity to assume the role of a person or act out a given situation. This activity will give the student, you, an opportunity to write a short script for a possible real-life scenario where a child may be acting out and using one of the guiding principles listed below to help build relationships with children in our care.

You will find the Guidance Methods and their definitions on the lefthand side under the tab labeled “Textbooks”. The following guidance methods you will be selecting one from will be

· I-message

· Set limits

· Negotiation

· Choices

· Contingency

· Consequences

You should have a minimum of two children within your video to demonstrate an interaction that would require one of the guidance methods to be used to solve the issue.

The script should include the following:

Setting: Where is this taking place? (Classroom, outside on the playground, block area, kitchen, etc.)

What is the problem? Give a brief example of what the issue/problem is between the two children (2-3 sentences will be enough)

Guidance Method: What guidance method is being used? Identify it here

Script – See the second page for an example.

If you have any questions, comments, and or/ concerns please don’t hesitate to contact me.

An example:

Sample of what I am looking for

Setting: Classroom

Problem: Kayla (Age 5) refuses to help the class clean up

Guidance Method(s): Consequences, Choices-- She could be offered a choice of which area to clean up. Encouragement and positive guidance are helpful. Natural and logical consequences could be used. Remind her of the rules. Modeling should always be used.

Kayla: I don’t want to clean up.

Teacher: Kayla, I think we should all clean this room up together because this was a group activity that we all participated in.

Kayla: That is too messy!

Teacher: I understand Kayla. There are a few areas in the classroom that are less messy. Would you like to choose from the kitchen or the blocks? Ryan and I can clean this area up while you can help Liz in the kitchen or Carlos in the blocks.

The script should end with you reaching a solution with the child.

In the video you will identify the following:

Your name, the setting, identify the problem, and what guidance method we will see be put into action. Then you show us the video/acting out of the script and that is it.

(Note- Please write a script but if the children in the video do not stick to it you will NOT be docked points off. If your guidance method is evident, you will receive full points)
