What do Elder Care Lawyers Do?
Elder Care Lawyers provide a variety of services to seniors and their families.
They may provide advice for estate planning including tax advice.
They may provide services for end of life planning such as living wills, springing powers of attorney, etc.
They may provide services concerning transfer of assets in order to manage Medicaid eligibility.
Additional Services Provided
Some elder care lawyers provide services for clients who are disabled such as management of SSI Disability forms and proceedings.
Some elder care lawyers provide services to families of disabled individuals to help them manage finances after the death of a parent or guardian. Those services may include use of trusts to provide for needs of the disabled person beyond what is covered by SSI Disability.
Where can a person find an elder care lawyer?
A person can find an elder care lawyer through the National Academy of Elder Care Lawyers or NAELA:
A person can also call the local county or State bar association and ask for the lawyers’ referral service. Once connected, ask for an elder care attorney.
Be sure in making plans for an elderly person, that you use the services of someone familiar with elder care law, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, SSI Disability rules and regulations and and tax laws.
