In life the measure of one's success is often tied to the effort one invests. That is not to say that drawing from ones natural gifts and talents cannot create an environment of success. But, as with most things to be successful effort must be invested. In business one factor that runs supreme is called ROI- Return On Investment.
ROI works, in a simple way of describing, I invest $5 into the stock market. After a period of time my stock is worth $8. The ROI would be the current value, less the invested value, producing an ROI of $3.
Your academic success and failure works the same way as well. If you do not invest the time into your education you cannot expect to get a high return. There are minimal things that you must do if you are to be successful, foundational work. Before you can take on a tasks there are always prerequisites. that you need to perform. In academia they are typically things such as reading, knowing how to compose a sentence or format a paper, following the directions/instructions, knowing how to calculate. Those are the things that are foundation to doing the task. One cannot reward someone for doing a prerequisite. If you did not do them you would be unable to do an actual tasks that shows your ability. If you want a house you need to dig a foundation, or build a foundation, for the house to sit. One does not pay a home builder for the foundation, they pay them for the house that sits on the foundation.
In this course your grade is a reflection of your efforts. Your success and failure is dependent upon the amount of effort you invest into the course. Each exam is created by me and comes directly from the book with minimal amount of interpretation involved. You can literally pass the quiz if you have done the reading. There is no subjectivity involved in a quiz, it is either right or wrong. Discussions posts can be successful by merely following the directions. If the discussion asks you to provide 10 items, and you provide 7 you did not follow the directions. You have only done 70% of what was required so your success can only be 70% at most.
Your ROI in this course can never be higher than your investment. You are capped at 100% ROI. If you give 100% effort you can expect to get no more than 100% back. Effort is more than just throwing some words in a post or paper and hitting submit. If you are tasked with washing the dishes and you dunk them in water then put them in a dish rack- do you feel you put forth the effort necessary to have clean dishes? What about soap, scrubbing the dishes, rinsing, etc.?
I challenge you to think with every assignment, every week, every task what is being requested and what is being required. The effort you invest should render you the success you desire. If you do not get the ROI that you expect, re-evaluate your effort objectively before challenging the outcome. Just because you would give 100% ROI only says that you are subjective in the things that you do, it is your work. I want everyone to be successful not just in this course but in their degree ventures and in society.
