Significance of School Dress Codes

Mindy L. Wheeler Comment by Elrod, James: Hi, Mindy. It looks like this paper is now on-topic, and it is free from plagiarism. I will grade it as-is, but it does not some major issues that will likely need to be revised and resolved. – James

Significance of School Dress Code Comment by Elrod, James: The first issue is that this paper falls at least one page short of the minimum length requirement.

School uniform policies as well as dressing codes have developed important aspects of learning in many institutions in America. Dressing codes and policies give students the guidelines to use the specifications and standards set by different schools. These specifications relate to elements such as color, texts, and stitches used in designing the uniforms. Thus, uniform policies should be adopted to create a positive learning environment and give the learners freedom of expression through their dressing codes. The following articles can be used to analyze dress codes’ values and uniform policies in America. Comment by Elrod, James: End the introduction with your thesis, but also be sure that your proposed solution truly satisfies both sides of the debate. Comment by Elrod, James: Cut

Dressing Diversity Comment by Elrod, James: The order of the next two sections should be flipped since Anderson’s article was published first.

Samantha Dean wrote this article. It was recorded as a journal and published in 2015. Samantha argues that analysis made on school uniform policies and social injustices shows confrontation of strangers requires seeing sameness rather than recognizing differences. Deane views school as a place where learners recognize how to carry out confrontation of the humanity pertaining other people, something that requires asking queries about the ability of educational differences and their ability to teach children different ways of dealing with individual differences (Deane, 2015). In short, school uniform related policies overlook some of the assumption set that the learner’s ability to challenge differences is not vital. Comment by Elrod, James: Typo. Comment by Elrod, James: Which article? Comment by Elrod, James: “Deane”

School Dress Code

The article is a policy report that Anderson Wendell wrote in the fall of 2002. It gives opinions on what learners should wear to the classroom. Anderson views dress code as; a safety issue and right issue for every learner. Wendell observes that when students conform to a certain dress code, then the behavior and self-confidence are improved. Observation of similar dress codes is another way of reducing the socioeconomic differences between learners (Anderson, 2002). Comment by Elrod, James: Be sure to cite, even when you paraphrase. Try to go into far more detail with each summary, too. Comment by Elrod, James: “Anderson” Comment by Elrod, James: I wonder if your citations could include page numbers.

As noted by both authors, dress codes and uniform policies limit violence and safety issues encountered by learners. A more optimistic and educational atmosphere is created once different learning institutions adopt uniform policies. Any violence that occurs due to socioeconomic gaps can be eliminated as suggested by Anderson because learners will appear the same once in school uniforms. In such an argument, the Rogerian model is important to identify the common goal that the two authors want to create regarding dress codes and uniform policies; this is essential to reach a positive ground for all learners and other education stakeholders. Unless the traditional approach, the focus is not winning but creating a common point as noted above. School uniform policies and dress codes are two issues that are highly charged (Pâquet, 2019). The two need to be addressed using appropriate language. Before any decision, views from both sides must be considered, not for creating a winner but for establishing a common ground. When using this model, the writer makes an analysis presented with an opportunity to state his position. Comment by Elrod, James: The Rogerian essay also requires a full paragraph that will explain what both sides have in common and point out where they differ. Comment by Elrod, James: The conclusion should flesh out your stance and explain how a “uniform policy” could be developed that would satisfy both sides of the debate, particularly Deane’s arguments. Comment by Elrod, James: This is not part of your essay. The responses to the reflection questions should be separated from the rest of the essay, included after the references list, and labeled accordingly.

When writing an argument essay, I would consider using the Rogerian approach because of its benefits. This model is about identifying a common goal, and considering the opposing sides of the argument is sufficient to create a quality argument essay. Positivity is created in the negative views before making a conclusion based on the common ground identified (Pâquet, 2019). As a writer, the Rogerian model is also important because it shows the reader that the writers understand whatever issues they are arguing about; the readers can identify the areas where they feel the writer was correct, among other benefits.

Mindy,

You’re getting closer to the target with this touchstone. Please read over my comments carefully. The biggest issue here is length; the essay should be at least two full pages (not including the heading, title, or reflection responses).

Good luck with what’s next!
