Interdisciplinary Plan Proposal
Patient satisfaction is an important factor in healthcare because it is an indicator
that measures the quality of care offered to patients. It also determines if the patients'
needs have been met by healthcare professionals or not. This project proposal aims to
find a solution for patient satisfaction in the hospitals operated by the Prime Healthcare
Organization, which will be implemented in all its forty-five healthcare facilities to ensure
improved patient satisfaction rates.
Objective
This plan aims to improve patient satisfaction rates in the forty-five hospitals
operated by the Prime Healthcare Organization through interdisciplinary collaboration.
Suppose the Prime Healthcare organization improves its patients' satisfaction rates, the
patient outcomes will improve because the healthcare professionals will meet the needs
of the patients.
Questions and Predictions
How does interdisciplinary collaboration affect patient satisfaction? Interdisciplinary
collaboration reduces and prevents medication errors, improves patient experiences,
improves patient outcomes, and helps the organization meet patient needs, which are
crucial determinants of patients' satisfaction rates. How much time will it take to
implement a collaborative culture and interdisciplinary approach in the hospital that the
Prime Healthcare Organization operates? The implementation will take six months to
ensure that interdisciplinary collaboration is fully implemented. The healthcare
professionals are offered the necessary training to ensure its success in meeting patient
satisfaction rates. What are the challenges that the organization can face when
3
implementing a collaborative foundation and interdisciplinary approach as a method to
address the issue of patient satisfaction? The challenges include the lack of clearly
stated, shared, and measurable purposes, lack of training in interdisciplinary
collaboration, and issues between team members such as reluctance to accept
suggestions from other team members.
Change Theories and Leadership Strategies
The theory that will be used to implement interdisciplinary collaboration in the
organization is Lewins' change theory. The Prime Healthcare Organization will also use
the transformational leadership strategy to implement this strategy within the hospitals
operated by the Prime Health Organization. The change theory will help the
interdisciplinary team collaborate and buy into the project plan to improve patient
satisfaction rates in several ways. The first way is that Lewin's model of change will give
the Prime Health Organization sufficient time to train the healthcare personnel that works
for their hospital on the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in improving patient
satisfaction because it reinforces change over a long period (Burnes, 2020). It will also
allow the interdisciplinary team to fully implement this plan when offering care to patients
by giving them the time required to familiarize themselves with the plan since it is
implemented in three stages. The transformation leadership strategy will also help the
interdisciplinary team collaborate, implement and buy into the project plan by engaging
discussion among the interdisciplinary team members. These discussions will be on the
specific roles in ensuring patient satisfaction and the shared responsibilities that promote
the effective collaborative practice and improved patient satisfaction.
4
Team Collaboration Strategy
The interdisciplinary team will consist of nurses, physicians, and psychologists.
The nurses will be responsible for coordinating patient care at the hospitals owned by the
Prime Healthcare Organization. They continuously review the care plan to ensure that all
the appropriate disciplines contribute effectively and efficiently to patient care to ensure
patient satisfaction. The physicians will be responsible for applying medicine principles
and procedures to prevent, diagnose, provide care and treat patients. The psychologists
will be responsible for providing emotional support and offering guidance and counseling
to patients. The collaboration approach which will be used is for every member to
participate and support shared decision-making by valuing and respecting the
contribution made by the other healthcare professionals. They will also ensure that the
decision meets the patients' needs and improves patient outcomes (Woo et al., 2017).
The types of collaboration that will help the interdisciplinary team succeed are
multidisciplinary collaboration and transdisciplinary collaboration. The interdisciplinary
team will observe and learn what happens in these types of collaboration, how duties and
responsibilities are shared, and how decision-making is made. Understanding how these
teams work will allow the interdisciplinary team to implement the best collaborative
approaches, resulting in success. The collaboration approach is relevant to the team's
needs since it will allow all the team members to participate in providing care to the
patient and addressing the needs of the patients (Jackson et al., 2020). The equal
participation and meeting of the needs of the patient will help the Prime Healthcare
organization to meet its objective of improving patient satisfaction in the hospitals that it
5
operates within the country, which will ensure the success of the organization and the
team both in the long term and the short term.
Required Organizational Resources
The project proposal requires all the staff members responsible for providing
patient care to improve patient satisfaction. The equipment needed for the plan proposal
is pagers and real-time location devices, which will be needed to communicate between
the team members and locate each other within the healthcare facility. Prime Healthcare
Organization already has these resources in all its hospitals. The cost associated with
using these resources will be $2 million for the forty-five hospitals that it operates. The
access that is needed is with the patients that are receiving healthcare. The overall
financial budget request for the plan proposal is $10 million, which will be used to fully
implement the project proposal in all the hospitals owned by this organization. The Prime
Healthcare Organization will lose its revenue since the patients will decide to look for
healthcare services in a different organization if patient satisfaction levels are not
improved in the hospital that it owns.
