Should the United States Support Initiatives that restrict carbon pollution?
Introduction
Environmental concerns, especially on the concept of pollution, have received significant attention globally; human activities that are associated with advancement and use of modern approaches in the creation of wealth have greatly turned to be unfriendly to the ecological setting. One of the major issues on this phenomenon is the creation and emission of harmful carbon substances to the surrounding. The emission of the same has conflicted with the natural settings which have indisputably tended to be harmful to the living fraternity ranging from human beings to even sea creatures (Hdom, 2019). At the same time, some individuals and relevant organizations that champion protecting the environment have risen critically to create awareness of its impact and encourage the perpetrators to consider limiting the release of carbon dioxide to the environment.
These entities have established initiatives that are geared towards the reduction of carbon (IV) oxide; however, these initiatives have not achieved full acceptance and implementation in the concerned parties. Environmental pollution with carbon substances is a major issue in the United States due to the intensive industrialization that acts as the primary source of the same; initiatives geared towards addressing the same are as well evident in the U.S. with their much emphasis on turning to better approaches that are friendly to the environment (Schenuit et al., 2021). These initiatives prove to be so instrumental in realizing the reduction of carbon emission to the environment, though they may not favor the United States significantly especially its economy, the U.S. government’s support and involvement on the same would amount to greater progress as the initiative’s goals are concerned.
There exist several initiatives that are relevant in the United States established to ensure the emission of carbon dioxide to the environment. They are primarily designed to modify various sources of emission; they significantly need attention and embracement from all stakeholders in the country. They also need maximum support from the United States government which holds power to ensure the prevalent initiatives have adhered to the latter. Carbon dioxide emission has been proved to be a serious cause of global warming with ultimate climate change due to its greenhouse effect nature; climate change has led to detrimental effects in the affected areas that are manifested in every dimension of livelihood (Eckelman et al., 2018). The severity of the consequences of climate change associated with carbon dioxide emission such as global warming with consequent symptoms such as the rise of sea levels, melting of ice caps in the poles, extreme weather conditions, and disruption of animals’ natural habitats amongst others, is a substantial reason as to why relevant initiatives should attract maximum appreciation.
As the United States strives to make the country remain a sustainable environment for the livelihoods of all its inhabitants, it needs to ensure that activities that emit carbon dioxide which is the cause of global warming are restricted as provided by the initiatives in place. Areas that are the major causes of this greenhouse gas such as transportation, industry, agricultural activities amongst others which have been pinpointed and accorded relevant recommendations by the available initiatives' provisions greatly require the involvement of critical stakeholders in the United States. Without the support of the United States’ influential bodies, especially the government, these initiatives may remain to be theories. There is an implication that the initiative’s goals of making the world a better and a conducive place to dwell requires some empowerment; the critical requirements and necessities that might be needed for the actualization of the provisions to restrict the emission may also be out of reach hence the need for external support.
Another reason that the United States should support these initiatives is because of how costly the effects of the respective consequences may turn to. Climate change carries along with several adverse effects that range from environmental to health of living things dimensions. The cost of managing such outcomes may turn out to be extremely enormous with some of them tending to be irreversible (Sanchez et al., 2018). For instance, climate change is known to be potentially able to cause environmental issues unfriendly to human health such as threatening food security, disruption of the cleanness of the air we breathe which ultimately increases chances of critical illnesses amongst others; with the huge United States’ population, managing such cases would be a great challenge that would shake her economy immensely. For the U.S. to avoid such occurrences from coming to happen, they need to embrace and support the initiatives in place designed to curb carbon dioxide emissions.
However, the phenomenon may not find extensive appreciation from the major United States business fraternity especially those who have richly invested in industrial and transport sectors. This is because these investments record large sums of dollars that if some provisions availed by these initiatives are to be adhered to, then the concerned investors will register unrecoverable losses. For instance, if vehicles that use fossil fuels are to be discarded and new ones that utilize other environment-friendly fuels are to be adopted, then transport companies and automotive companies may incur immense losses; furthermore, it may appear a threat to United States’ economy since some of these businesses define the lucrative United States’ economy (Mendoza et al., 2019). Nevertheless, the provisions of the respective initiatives prove to be so impactful as long-term sustainability is concerned; with the adverse effects that come along with climatic changes due to the emission of carbon dioxide, the respective outcomes tend to be unequaled.
Conclusion
There exist various initiatives that are designed to restrict the emission of carbon dioxide; carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas that causes global warming. Global warming is a threat to the environment since it causes climate change which is a critical concern in the contemporary world. The establishment of initiatives is an approach that is so instrumental in realizing the reduction of this emission; however, these initiatives majorly need the support of the United States if they are be actualized into tangible results. The United States needs to embrace the provisions of these initiatives to avoid ultimate occurrences that may turn out to be unmanageable. Besides the unfavorable terms that are described by these initiatives to particular influential entities in the United States, the country needs to support these initiatives.
