The Sun Coast Remediation Research Project

Introduction

The homeless population in the state of Florida is on rise. The upward trend has gained media and policy maker’s attention. It is essential for the domestic economy of Sun Coast to manage the homelessness phenomenon. This research project is aimed at assessing the different factors associated with homelessness and the possible solutions afterwards. It is essential to explore the different variables like crime rate, microfinance opportunities, and joblessness for a deeper understanding of homelessness and the possible way forward.

Research Problems

The menace of homelessness does not only affect the individuals in the present; instead, creates obstacles on the way to students’ academic excellence. As Tobin, K. (2017) explores the link between educational attainment and homelessness, the research argues that the different remedial measures to homelessness paves way for different kind of education outcomes for the students. It is hard to argue that the people living without owning their own homes may be benefited from the educational opportunities provided to overcome future challenges. themselves. Below are the statistics on homelessness for the state of Florida. Total homeless population in Florida, as per 2018 statistics is approximately 31,000 which explains the grave situation. More than one-fourth of the homeless population is students which explains the grave situation and consequences of homelessness on education. The statistics shows that more than two-third of the students are relying on doubled up night time residence to survive.

Young (2016) argues that in order to devise strategies and manage needs of the individuals living with homelessness, it is essential to conduct research exploring various options and repercussion of strategies. It is also important to understand that the strategies depend on the needs of the individuals and success of the devised strategy depends on well assessed needs. There are various possible avenues to solve the problem of homelessness, but all the paths have their constraints which needs to be assessed carefully. Lastly, homelessness is not only about deprivation of home. The macroeconomic system is functioning in a such a way that it deprives families from sacrificing between owning a house and meeting the needs of families.

Define Research Objectives

The objective of the research is to figure out ways in which the issue of homelessness can be resolved. The key independent variables to explore here are crime rate, and joblessness, microfinance loans strategy to assist homelessness. In this research we’ll find the ways in which the problem can be approached for possible solution. It will also address the feasibility of planning to provide homeless with state funded shelters or residence. This research aims at exploring the relationship of three independent relationship vis-a-vis homelessness, that is, crime rate, joblessness, and (effectiveness of) micro finance loans.

RQ1: What is the relationship between joblessness and homelessness?

H01: (null hypothesis) There is no statistically significant relationship between joblessness (independent variable) and homelessness (dependent variable).

Ha1: (alternative hypothesis) There is a statistically significant relationship between joblessness (independent variable) and homelessness (dependent variable).

RQ2: Is it possible to solve the problem of homelessness through providing microfinance loans?

H02: (null hypothesis) There is no statistically significant relationship between microfinance loans (independent variable) and homelessness (dependent variable).

Ha2: (alternative hypothesis) There is a statistically significant relationship between microfinance loans (independent variable) and homelessness (dependent variable).

RQ3: Is the decrease or increase in homelessness had a direct relationship to the crime rates in neighborhood?

H03: (null hypothesis) There is no statistically significant relationship between crime rate (independent variable) and homelessness (dependent variable).

Ha3: (alternative hypothesis) There is a statistically significant relationship between crime rate (independent variable) and homelessness (dependent variable).
