INTRODUCTION

This Handbook is prepared with resources to help guide you in producing a successful project worth 16% of your grade.

Summary of Submissions

Group Portion Format (12% of grade):

· Cover Page

· Your Group Member Names

· Location of presentation and rationale for the choice

· Area of Insurance industry targeted online/other resources (give URL and dates of accessing)

· Describe weekly group activities

· Rationale for the use of those resources

Individual Report Format (4% of grade): (3 pages maximum, excluding the cover page and appendices. This MUST be different for each student as it is based on your own views and reflection).

· Cover page (include your name and below your group name and members)

· Journal and Reflection Statements (described at the end of the Project Guide)

BACKGROUND

The assignment has been designed so that students can achieve the following course and program learning objectives:

1) Apply concepts relevant to risk mitigation and insurance industry.

2) Analyze and research how specific issues related to insurance, affect or are affected by the economy, politics and global and local communities.

The Insurance Project-What Is It?

Your over-arching goal is to investigate the type of knowledge and skills necessary for success in the insurance industry. This project requires a team effort to make it to a successful completion.

GROUP DELIVERABLES:

1. Names of individuals of interviewers

2. Client evaluation sheet

3. Research the industry you have chosen including job opportunities, career paths and necessary educational and professional credentials.

INDIVIDUAL PORTION: The AT-EASE Journal and Reflection Statement

On a weekly basis you should be keeping a record of your own activities in terms of how they contribute to the group’s efforts. Please use these headings (AT-EASE) to guide your reflection statement that is due at the end of the course.

Accessing	What research did you perform to determine what your clients need to know and be able to do by the time your finish your presentations? What resources did you access from your RMI 3011 class? What resources did you access from publicly available websites? What other resources did you access to clarify the ideas/techniques that are confusing to you and what you identified as necessary to accomplish your goals?
Trying	List two actions that you performed after you accessed the above resources What steps could you have taken to clarify the ideas/techniques that are confusing to you?
Exploring	How did you implement your project effectively and efficiently? This statement should include how you made to the decisions on location, topic, assignment of team member’s roles and responsibilities, communication and engagement techniques. Did your techniques evolve or change over the course of your presentations? If yes, why?
Accessing	What course concepts/skills are you now more comfortable with based on this learning experience? What course outcomes/skills are still confusing/ unclear to you at the end of the project?
Seeking	How can you use what you learned in the rest of your academic career? How can you use what you learned for life’s challenges? Write two questions that would help clarify the ideas/techniques that are still unclear to you.
Exploring	What did you actually learn about the course content, skills you personally developed and about some of the issues facing the community? Give examples of how you integrated new learning and familiar ideas and skills to develop new ways of engaging learning. Give specific examples of when you learned these things. Why does this learning matter - how does this relate to your course, major, degree, personal goals, career objectives etc?)?
