Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS)
The US government established the CMS 1965, under the US Department of Health and Human Services responsible for implementing the Medicaid program. The CMS operates in partnership with the state governments to deliver Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and health insurance standards (CMS, 2020). Therefore, it is the national body mandated with all insurance-related health matters in the United States. The CMS is instrumental in ensuring that the Medicaid and CHIP programs are running well across all states. Also, the CMS formulates insurance guidelines that public and private insurance organizations follow. That is why the US is amongst countries with the best insurance coverage schemes globally that provide a wide range of coverage for many types of health issues. The CMS also has an oversight role over health accreditation bodies such as the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), the Joint Commission to ensure they carry out their duties according to the law.
Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC)
It is an organization that provides accreditation to facilities that offer ambulatory services such as ambulatory surgery centers, office-based surgery centers, endoscopy centers, college student health centers, and health maintenance organizations (AAAHC, 2020). This organization executes its mandate under the authority of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS). Today in the US, there are many private ambulatory facilities in every city, and the AAAHC ensures that they are properly accredited to carry out medical procedures. The organization also ensures that these facilities operate under nationally recognized guidelines and have the required medical equipment and personnel to attend to patients. Without the AAAHC, ambulatory service providers would not be efficient in service delivery.
