Purpose & Description
The purpose of this assignment is for you to develop your ability to understand the important relationship between the writer and readers. You will develop skills to understand and consider the deeper contexts of readings in your MBA courses. You will gain the ability to examine the role audience, tone, purpose, and author assumptions play in effective business communication. Building on your skills to deconstruct readings, you will then learn how to communicate the same information to a different audience and for a different purpose.
Assignment
· Please refer to the class PPT slides for detailed information.
· The assignment is a five-step process in which you will be required to submit four documents.
1. You will be given a business reading in which you will have to deconstruct the text to better understand HOW and WHY the author wrote the piece. The focus will NOT be on agreeing or disagreeing with the author.
2. Once you have read through the text several times, you will need to complete a graphic organizer for the outline and write a rhetorical analysis of the reading. The rhetorical analysis must be 500 words or fewer.
3. You will then write and submit a 500 word recommendation paper. In the paper you are to include your findings, the limitations of your findings, and recommendation for your reader with thesis and support.
4. You will use instructor feedback to revise and edit your rhetorical analysis and your recommendation paper.
5. You will submit your revised work as part of your portfolio.
· Submission timetable:
1. Submit graphic organizer/rhetorical analysis by week 3
2. Submit recommendation paper by week 4
3. Submit final revised drafts as part of the portfolio week 10
