The Rewrite Policy is an opportunity for you to improve the grade of an already graded essay or revise a zero grade if you submitted an essay.   This is not a "makeup" opportunity.  If you did not  turn in an assignment you cannot, obviously, rewrite it.

Here are the two ways an essay qualifies for a rewrite.

1.  Your essay received a grade, other than zero, and you want to rewrite it for a better grade.  You can select up to two essays to rewrite.  Here is what to do:

      A.  Rewrite the essay making any changes you want to improve it.  Note: if your essay received a grade other than zero there will be corrections and suggestions on the graded                        paper, usually on the first two or three pages, that you are welcome to use to improve the essay.  You are also free to ask your professor for help with your rewrite.

      B.  Submit the rewritten essay on or before the last day of the Summer Intersession, 7/30, as an attachment to a Canvas "Inbox" message.

      C.  Be sure to identify your message in the subject line as Rewrite Essay #1 or #2, #3, #4. The message text should say "Rewrite of Essay #1 (or appropriate number) attached."

2.  Your essay received a grade of zero because the assignment was incomplete.  it was missing a rough draft(s), outline, checklist(s), did not meet the required page count. You can              select up to two essays to rewrite.  Here is what to do:

      A.  Rewrite the essay making any changes you want to improve it,  and  be sure to include items necessary to the correct deficiencies of your original submission.  Note: if your                           essay received a grade of zero then no corrections or suggestions were made by your professor. However, you are free to ask your professor for help with your rewrite.

      B.  Submit the rewritten essay, with the submission deficiencies, on or before the last day of the Summer Intersession, 7/30, as an attachment to a Canvas "Inbox"message.

      C.  Be sure to identify your message in the subject line as Rewrite Essay #1 or #2, #3, #4. The message text should say "Rewrite of Essay #1 (or appropriate number) attached."

The rewritten essay will be read and graded.  If it is improved over the original submission, and it usually is,  the old grade will be deleted and the new "improved" grade will be substituted.
