Also, he made highly original paintings that incorporated the influence of American folk art, combined with the imagery influence of Japanese art. The experience he garnered overseas affected his work such that he began painting from reality instead of from his memory and imagination."

1. The first part of that statement seems to contradict the end. In the beginning, you state that his art comes from his own making but towards the end, you say that his painting comes from reality. Which is it?

2. What is the connection between the combination of American folk art and Japanese art with his experiences overseas? Are they connected?

3. What are you referring to when you mention his experience overseas? His experience with his family? Be specific.
