English 101 Revision Essay Assignment & Rubric
Assignment Of your previously written and evaluated essays--the Narrative Essay, the Illustration Essay, and the Cause/Effect Essay—select the one you wish to revise. NOTE: You may NOT select an essay on which you earned a zero for not completing it.
Your revised work must reflect the following changes:
• Audience. Target a very specific audience, which must be different from the class instructor. You will need to adjust the essay content to address the needs of that audience.
• Length. Expand the essay by at least 700 words. In other words, your revised piece should be 700 words longer than the required length of the original essay. To develop the essay content, first revise or refine your thesis. Then, add supporting ideas and/or strengthen the existing supporting ideas with additional details or research.
• Research. Add at least one more source to the number of sources required for the original assignment.
• Feedback. Carefully review your instructor’s feedback on your original submission and make the recommended changes.
Your grade on the Revision Essay does not replace your grade on the original essay: it is a Major Writing Assignment of its own, worth 150 points.
Format Your paper must in correct MLA format (9th edition) with the standard MLA heading. Use the Word Count tool to determine the number of words. At the end of your paper, skip a line and then type the following: Word count: xxx words
Submission You MUST submit your essay electronically through the Assignment in Canvas as a Microsoft Word file. In the comment area of your submission, specify your target audience.
