REVISED - BUSN 1240 Project 1 Instructions

Students are to create the projects listed below in Microsoft Word 2013 or Word 2016. Students are to reference the textbook chapters, textbook examples, and Internet to complete projects. Students are to label each project at the left margin one space after the last entry has been typed on the document. Students are to label each document as follows: Project Number (document number), Course Number, and Student’s Name.

1. Students are to complete Application 1-A on page 33. Use the information provided by Ms. Quevedo about Supreme Appliances, Inc. to complete the project.

2. This is your second day on a new job. Since you are not familiar with the location of resource materials, students are to open the file Application 1-B Locating Resource Materials (attached) and complete the Resource Material for Workstation using the Office Procedures for the 21 Century textbook.

3. Students are to complete Application 2-E on page 81. Here are some suggested websites where you may find actual seminars.

Fred Pryor Seminars—CareerTrack: www.pryor.com

Clarity Seminars: www.clarityseminars.com

SkillPath: www.skillpath.com

Strictly Success: www.strictlysuccess.com

4. An employer is interested in your applying for an administrative position. Students are to open the file Self-Appraisal Inventory (attached) and complete the document for Human Resources. Completing a Self-Appraisal Inventory is a useful step in developing a successful resume.

5. Students are to search the Internet for local job openings and choose a job announcement for which you are qualified. Write a summary of the qualifications, type of job, benefits, salary, and location.

Students are to use the information from Task 3 and create the following:

I. Letter of application

II. Resume

III. Thank-you letter

Students are to complete this section as if you were applying the job from the announcement you found. Write the cover letter for the position solicited from the announcement. Remember, the cover letter is a sales letter that is selling a product: you are the product. Make sure you use the correct format for letters (application letter and thank you letter). The letters should model Figure 3-4 on page 101 or Figure 3-5 on page 102. Finally, prepare a resume using either the chronological or functional format (See Figure 3-2 on page 94 or Figure 3-3 on page 95). If you are not sure how to word the thank you letter, see the example on page 117 or browse the Internet for samples. This assignment is the first step in getting you prepared to complete your portfolio that is required when you graduate.

Note: As I indicated before, your assignment should only be one file. For example, #1 should be on page 1, #2 on page 2, so forth and so on.
