Why Literature Review Is Needed In A Research Proposal
Writing a research proposal is as important as writing the research itself. However, there are essential elements that play critical roles in the writing of a research proposal. Literature review is one of the basic elements that need to be effective done in order to come up with an effective research proposal. Literature review is hence a needed and vital piece in a research proposal because it ensures the research develops a comprehensive and relevant body of materials to support his work. Literature review also helps in supporting the need for a study suggested in a research proposal. Through effective review of available literature on a topic, the research is able to identify existing gaps and areas that require further studies (Da Silveira, Borenstein & Fogliatto, 2001). The review will therefore be critical in proving the worth and urgent need of the study proposed. Comprehensive review of available literature on a topic consequently helps the researcher to gather imperative data, ideas and opinions on a topic hence providing a framework through which the researcher is guided on his current study. Literature review also helps in describing how the propped research is related to the previous studies and statistics.
How a Weak Literature Review can Diminish a Research Proposal
A weak literature review is regarded as a diminishing factor to a research proposal. Researchers who fail to conduct robust literature reviews are therefore subjected to various problems that render their studies ineffective and lacking facts. A weak literature review diminishes a research proposal through; adoption of parochial perspectives. This makes a proposal to be shallow hence lacking credibility. Secondly, a weak literature reviews make a research proposal to sufficient criticality. Weak literature review consequently makes a proposal fails to distinguish itself from previously conducted studies hence lacking relevance (Hart, 2018). Strong research proposals therefore require effective review of available literature to acquire both credibility and relevance.
How to Pull Away from Literature Review in the Results and discussion Sections
Literature review provides vital information on available information on a topic. It consequently offers an effective building block to the proposed study. However, moving to the results and discussion sections requires the researcher to move away from the reviewed literature and provide the results of his new studies as well as discussing data of the new research. Pulling away from the literature review is thus done through offering the inferences made from the new study depending on the gaps intended to be filled by the new study as well as the research topic.
