ASSE 3211: Learning Outcome Assessment II

Individual Assignment 1-

Self-Assessment Assignment (10%)

Purpose:

This assignment will enhance your understanding of self-assessment concepts and their practical applications

Expected Learning Outcomes

The assignment will enable you to: critically review concepts of self-assessment; develop your own self-assessment technique; promote the acquisition of your core competencies and transferable skills which you need for your future employment; acquire the strategies that help you identify the strengths and weaknesses of your past academic accomplishment and performance regarding PMU competencies.

The Assignment: The assignment has two requirements, but please submit them as one document in Blackboard for grading.

1. Video Critique (5%)

Below is a set of educational videos that focus on the concepts of self-assessment and their practical applications.

You are required to go through the selected videos and choose one from each section (that is, choose one video on the what, another on the why and a third on the how of self-assessment). Use the below mentioned guidelines while writing your critical review of each video.

You should write three critiques in all and each should be at least three to four paragraphs. Your whole paper should be at least a 1 ½ - 2 pages in length. Use Times New Roman font size 12, and use single space for your paragraphs.

2. Self-Assessment Reflective Essay (5%)

Conclude your review of the videos with a personal reflective statement (essay) through which you have to state your own understanding of the concept of self- assessment and its practical application to your own learning.

You should write at least five paragraphs which should be at least 1- 1 ½ pages in length. Use Times New Roman font size 12, and use single space for your paragraphs.

Review Guidelines for Video Critiques

· State the main theme of your online lecture

· State who said what, why and how.

· State the main ideas and how they are organized

· After stating the main themes of the viewed video segment and how they are organized, consider to what extent the presented information is reliable. The reliability of the information in this case may be inferred through establishing the relationship between the content of the video and published reliable research in this area and the information that you get from the textbook and lectures.

· Consider questions such as: Is there a referenced component to check the accuracy of the presented information?

· You may establish a link between the content of the viewed segments and your previous assignments in various courses.

· A reflective statement on your part may add a value;

· Consider what this video adds to your understanding of the process of self-assessment and its practical application

· What are the limitations of the presented materials; and if you have a chance to do it yourself, how would it be different; what would you add?

· In addition, you may consider in your critique whether the instructional objectives were clearly stated, identified and communicated to the audience.

· Was the logic that stands behind the creation of the segment identified and how? Was the followed organizational structure meaningful and valid?

· Did the segment make use of engaging activities, scenarios and examples to enhance the understanding of the targeted audience?

· To what extent was the video segment engaging, thought-provoking and presenting what it is expected to present?

· What did you learn?
