A Historical Look at Resume Conventions

Your group has three sample resumes for prospective social workers. These examples come from published resume books and are considered effective documents (for their time period, at least). Note that each resume is from a different decade (1960s, 1970s, and 1980s).

As a group, analyze these resumes and document the convention trends you see developing in the table below. For example, the order of the resume parts suggests a hierarchy. Note how the placement of conventions changes in these examples as well as the types of information included in each section.

Lastly, determine what a prospective social worker’s resume for 2016 would look like. Use the information you’ve collected from this activity and the information from Chapter 16 of your textbook to help you with this final step.
