· Serves as a phlebotomist and specimen collection handler in a Military outpatient clinic.

· Performs processing procedures (centrifugation under the guidance of others, requiring knowledge of the correct type tube, amount of specimen needed, and procedure to be followed according to the test requested.
· Exposed to contagious disease while using safety precautions and procedures.
· Enters all specimen and patient data into hospital information system.
· Contacts Medical Staff in handling patients in cases of fainting, convulsions, and illness.
· Conveys to the patient the intention of performing a phlebotomy draw while showing understanding and empathy to the patient's condition.
· Follows all regulatory and legal requirements for Chain of Custody of specimens when necessary.
· Maintains strict confidentiality of all testing results. Performs quality control and routine maintenance according to local Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
· Serves as receptionist for patients providing instructions on collecting specimens (i.e. urines and clean catch urines) and participated in inventory control.
· Prepared specimens for shipping to other sites, and logging patient data in to the computer according to established procedures.
· Assists in disinfecting and closing the Phlebotomy room at the end of the shift.
· Expert knowledge of the spelling and meaning of medical terminology required to transcribe appropriate entries into medical records and other medical documents and forms.
