Chapter 14, 15, and 16

Chapter 14

Leadership is a skill that you can learn because being an effective leader means that you are always developing yourself.  I have changed and developed as a leader over the course of the years.  I believe as long as you are willing and able to learn then sky is the limit.  If you can stick to you values and work in a ethical manor then skills can be learned.  As long you can follow the five leadership principals which are modal the way, inspire a shared vision, enact others to act and encourage the heart then you can develop your skills.  I also think that learning to be an active listener and practicing that skill and also be open to feedback and always seeking to learn new things anyone can be taught new things.

Chapter 15

I do and I don't agree with this idea of texting and smartphones are ruining the art of face to face interaction.  I do agree with this because personally I believe it is important to meet face to face because you can get a sense of how a person is.  I believe that being comfortable speaking to someone in person and to show active listening.  Also I believe that phones need to be removed from dinner with family or have phone free times.  I hate when you are talking to someone and they just check out of the conversation to check there phone.  I do not agree with this because I feel like this is a way of developing communication for example say you have to tell someone something but it doesn't need to be a call or a face to face meeting like saying I forgot milk can you pick some up on the way home.  You can send a quick message and be done. Also it makes the world connected to each other faster and efficiently.

Chapter 16

I stand on the side of Total Quality Management. I believe that majority of the time improving processes, organization, and improvements will always yield reduced costs in the long run. Although, these changes to improve quality by reducing waste and inefficiencies will not reduce cost right away or sometimes they even cost money upfront to start, in the long run these improvement will eventually start to decrease cost and over time will save a lot more money than was ever spent to start it. Although, yes it might be expensive at the beginning to implement new processes and machinery to improve quality, in the long run you’ll save more money. Also, of course, improving product quality will only drive sales up which in turn profits more money as well.
