Hi All,
Disasters should be expected from anywhere irrespective of place and time. Not only hurricanes, tornadoes, Tsunami and earthquakes are disasters, it can also be in any form. Cyberattacks, system failure can also be classified as disasters. When it comes to protecting the important or critical data of any company, we need to have recovery plan in place considering such situations. Based on (hbr.org, 2017) survey, in southern California, “The intentional damage to the corporate data or corporate assets has enormously increased during past decade, with almost 75 to 95 percent of 500 Fortune companies are not ready for such type of crisis”
In today’s IT world, companies deal with lots of critical business functions and they rely more on their IT systems to help and maintain their businesses. Earning a brand in the market or trust from their customers is not an easy job for any corporate business, in fact, lots of effort goes into it. (13 & Watts, 2018), believes that “corporate offices should also recognize that success in business and continuity always depends on disaster recovery plan”. The stronger your disaster recovery plan is the stronger the business stands in the market.
In my company, every team or unit has its own plan of disaster recovery from Human resources, client management, infrastructure management, finance management, security team, etc. They have a dedicated resource who constantly working hard to minimize such disasters to the organization. Disasters are sometimes good to avoid rather than plan to recover after damage occurs.
There are many ways a disaster recovery can be planned. According to (Hernandez, 2018), “Visualization disaster Recovery, Network disaster recovery, data center disaster recovery and could disaster recovery are the main types of disaster recovery plans”. Having all your data on the virtual server can eliminate the need for installing the physical server when something bad happens and which is the perfect way to protect the critical data. In terms of network disasters having good IT personnel and have the network infrastructure replaced from vendors is the best possible way for disaster recovery. A cloud recovery plan is the latest technology process every business is planning to invest in these days. Without having additional infrastructure replicating whole system into cloud can save a company from any future disasters. Building perfect data centers with all required facilities like utilities, power backup, physical security and much more will result in fewer chances of disasters.
Successful companies in today’s IT world have always learned in difficult way of disaster recovery. Most of them are caused by simple human errors which could have avoided without any great effort. But these small mistakes can very expensive when disaster occurs. Having a well-designed modeled plan for disaster recovery and good strategies steps can save a ton of money, time and effort.

A disaster recovery plan is a structured approach and it explains how an organization quickly restarts work after an unplanned incident happens in the workplace. The main aim of the disaster recovery plan is to reduce the downtime and data loss and also protect the organization in all events. “Disaster recovery plan is the combination of policies, processes, and procedures and those are providing the ability to organizations to recover all vital infrastructures, databases, and applications after a disaster occurs” (Shaw, 2018). Nowadays data and databases are critical to business continuity without those difficult to run the business effectively. Present-day by day data issues increases in the workplace to reduce the issues most of the organizations store their information in databases.
To protect the information from third parties organizations making regular backups and storing the information off-site. Whenever a disaster occurs and loses organizations' sensitive data then that time these backups are used to restore the data. Nowadays companies use a vast amount of data to run the business effectively and backup their information regularly (Lyon, 2018). To back up the data large databases take hours or days to restore and sometimes take longer time. “A disaster recovery process contains planning and testing and might involve a separate physical backup site for restoring operations”. To protect the information from hackers as well as natural disasters most of the organizations store the information in databases as well as backup the information frequently. Once the organizations lose the data and do not implement backup also then that time impossible to regain the information.
To reduce the disasters in the workplace first of all employees should understand their role in the workplace. Nowadays 60 percent of issues happen due to human mistakes and their negligence in the workplace. “Proper planning is important to protect the information from unknown persons because frequently organizations move data from one place to another in that time many chances are there to happen issues” (Alhazmi, 2015). Regular backup checking is important in the organization otherwise lose information sometimes. In the workplace to reduce manual procedures and maximizing automated procedures referred to as recovery time objective. It helps to minimize the potential damages and quickly restore operations in the organization. Data is the backbone of the organizations so proper protection is important to i.e. where the data is stored to those applications.
Data breaches happen frequently in the workplace to access sensitive data and the main aim of hackers is to hack the sensitive data and earn money. Due to the breaches, most of the organizations suffered a lot, and sometimes their reputation also decreases. The hackers simply gain profits by stealing sensitive data like credit card details and login details (Choy, Leong, & Wong, 2000). Organizational data has more value in the market and most of the hackers also show interest to hack sensitive data only not show to other data. Recovery techniques are helpful to restore data in a system and such techniques are widely used in filing systems and database systems.
