CLASSMATE 1:
I chose to re-watch a war film called Fury made in 2014, I have not really been into war films since I was a little I tended to stay away from war films due to having strong family ties with military watching movies that dealt with war and death made me feel a different type of concern and worry watching them. War movies hit my sadness button in me even more since I became a soldier myself and have lost multiple brothers and sister in arms while I spent my time during service was another reason why I avoided them most of the time but Fury was the first war movie I really sat down and watched in its entirety because I kind of had to, we were invited to a exclusive showing for it since the cast came to Ft Benning, Georgia for a motor pool visit and photo op before the movie’s release. Since my MOS was a tank mechanic and I was the only female tank mechanic at the time in the whole Brigade, I was the only one in the whole military installation excluding the ladies currently going to AIT there. So I was one of those volun-told soldiers to be an added tour guide and show pig for our visitors, but I didn’t mind It was Brad Pitt I was meeting so it wasn’t too bad of an option in my opinion it could’ve been worse company.
I noticed in the movie when it came to lighting it was very muted, with dark colors and greys when it dealt with death and slower scenes with dialogue, most of the characters had a dimness and shadowing on them in certain scenes as well since it was an environment that was full of sadness and despair, even in scenes and times with bloodshed even the bright color of red blood was also muted and darker rather than in real life with being bright red. I noticed however whenever it was fight scenes the white and greys brightened up a little bit especially during explosions causing people to feel like that, they were there in the fire fight and action as well. Bright pops of white lights and along with the contrast of dark black shadows of the bombs and dirt explosions gave the scene a more 3-D effect that at times hearing the booms of the gun tubes and seeing the dirt fly everywhere made me subconsciously and immediately made me think and smell of sulfur that a round would leave in a tank turret even though we were only in an auditorium spectating a movie. I do not necessarily think there was a predominate color that was missing in the film since the muted colors of the black whites and greys were enough to set a mood of war and despair that took place during that time and era of war. If it were done with brighter lighting and vivid colors, the images and feeling of each scene would feel a void of seriousness and also the muted colors help the film give that old time feel of the era it was created in since it was a war film that was taking place in Germany during 1945.
